Default 69 Black Sidepeipe Convertible - Updated

Hi Guys ... am in the process of putting together a new car and this one needs a home, this is a really nice driver, paint is beautiful. Putting it out there at $35K.

1969 Triple Black Factory original Sidepipe car, L46 350 / 350 numbers match engine and matching 4 speed trans (car was originally red on red), bought the car out of Seattle

Frame on restored 2007.. had it appraised before I redid the motor and engine bay in 2008 came in at 5OK 9 years ago ..

This is a great get in and go car, I have never had a break down.

The good

Motor professionally built by redline performance speed shop 2008, runs amazing... engine bay and motor a beautiful

MSD Ignition

High speed starter

Holley 650 CFM carb (new in 2007)

All ignition shielding and engine chrome is there and 9-10

McJacks shorty stainless headers, catalytic converters (no burning eyes)

Ecklers street and slalom suspension with rear mono spring- gives the car a nice stance

4 Wheel disc brakes all redone during restoration

New Clutch 2008 and driveline was sorted

Car restored at "The Vetteworks" in Port Perry

The paint is 9-10, super clean, only door jams have wear evident from use

The chrome is super clean, front bumper is 7-10, rears 10-10, sidepipes 7-10 as the chrome is showing age due to use.

Vacuum system works perfect

Sidepipes under the chrome covers are in excellent condition

No rust inside frame and birdcage .. super clean, undercarriage has been painted (frame on)

The OK

Interior doors, carpet, console, rear storage was all new, carpet now a bit faded

Drivers seats should be recovered, small hole in drivers seat

Has the vintage air system but it was just before they released the kit for the 69-72, so I rigged it with a switch in the cigarette lighter so I could use the original climate control ... works perfect with the Vintage air controls but the way I have it sometimes doesn't turn on, if were keeping the car I would replace the under dash piece with the newer version and the control, in the pics its shows the vintage air controls which I am no longer using.

Stereo sounds great but its old school, could be improved

The Bad (which I can have addressed or sell as is,all minor issues)

Emergency brake is weak, the attachment point under the car needs some tweaking

Emergency brake handle is cracked

One of the sidepipe cover attachment arms recently broke off (I think they are $10.00) from Ecklers, about 4 inch piece that grabs the frame

Nothing is inside the rear storage area ,no lights, no tools, but there are storage trays

The chrome bezel surrounding the gauges is cracked

Odometer is not working ........... I probably drove this car 3-4 thousand miles in 9 years

The soft top rattles when folded down when I hit bumps, never figured it out.

Oil leak above the transmission inspected by the shop that built the motor, they are saying Valve cover gasket or rear main seal .... I am having both done, for sure nothing serious., was going to put in a 5 spd and address at that time, but moved onto another project.

Car is getting lots of attention, I may have an offer tonight from a customer of the shop its at, so if anyone out there is serious, tag me so I can send you what you need to make a decision

$35K OBO

Beautiful car but you should probably post in the general section first. Then when you have decided on a price put it in the for sale section. Good luck, it's hard to beat a black/black 69 roadster!

Beautiful car.

I'd say that your $35K price tag is a good starting point based on the condition that you listed.

GLWS.

Hi H,
The car looks nice in the pics!
The point about the oil leak above the transmission being caused by a freeze plug is a bit confusing since a freeze plug leaks coolant not oil… you might want to clarify that.
It would be helpful to see a good selection of photos of the engine compartment and also of the chassis.
The claim of an original side exhaust car, but with no documentation, will make people want to see at least the inside and outside of the rear valance/quarter panel areas.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan

Thanks ... I have decided to get the leak addressed, take it out of the equation as I think it can draw unwarranted concern, for sure I will post the undercarriage with a focus on the rear valance. .. should have it all done by next week.

Was it not the case that the side exhaust was ceased early in the 69 build cycle? Knowing the build date could help eliminate it being a true side pipe car. It couldn't confirm it however.

It's hard to pin that down from what I understand. They had them in some very early cars then stopped production almost right away for a few months because of some problem. Then they offered them again starting around December maybe? But it seems to not be completely agreed upon. At least from what I remember reading.

The one place to check is the middle crossmember to see if the ground wire holes are filled. But even that can be made to look factory.

Either way this is a very nice looking car and GLWS.

Default Good Call on Fixing The leak

Just my two cents; I think that you made a good call on fixing the leak. I am looking for a 69 - 71 myself (prefer small block), and I must confess, when I saw the leak issue; I immediately thought "run Forrest run." Most guys buying 45 year old cars understand that there will be some minor issues; for example, your emergency brake would never be a deal breaker. However, the leak that you mention might scare away a potential buyer.

This is a drop dead gorgeous car; I would offer that once the leak is fixed, she'll sell in a New York minute.

Best of luck.

Thanks. Car I going in on Saturday and won't come out until it's resolved. Great forum as the suggestions are really helping.
