Super questionable 69 vert for sale on ebay
Hey Guys,
Was looking for 69 convertibles on ebay when I came across this very questionable car: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Co...-/231837424682
So other than having a 73+ nose, 74+ rear body and the wrong vin prefix for a convertible "1943" for coupe instead of "1946" is there anything else that screams stolen and re-vinned?? The vin tag also looks questionable, the 4s and 9s don't look deep enough. Anyway, I'd make sure to stay away from this HOT deal! Oh and you got to love the guys ebay id too "myhotcars1".
If only all car scams would be so easy to spot!

I think they intended to list it as a '79. Probably a convertible conversion, the dash and interior are all post'77. If it is a conversion then the vin would be for a coupe since there weren't any factory convertibles built then.

Just looked at the vin and it isn't a '79. So you are right something strange about this one. Why would anyone convert what is probably the most collectible year C3 and make it unrecognizable.

Who says this is a scam? You can find almost anything on eBay. The VIN in the listing is for a 1969 Corvette coupe and the dealership has it listed as a 69. Obviously, the car is not stock.

Theres a few different ways people create a 80-82 body style convertible, an interest to some because they didnt make convertibles in that style. One way is to cut the roof off an 80-82, another is to add the 80-82 front clip to a 74-5 convertible and add on the later bumper cover.
This car looks like they did a ton of body part reploacement on what was probably a wreck and made an 80-82 style convertible, a conversion thats not uncommon. I dont see why there's any reason to suspect a "scam" at all, or what the scam might be.

It has a vin plate from a 69 coupe riveted to it's A-pillar and this car is in no way a 69 coupe.

The car is a 1980 and has a vin plate removed from a 1969 what part of that seems reasonable to you? Look at all the pictures of the car, especially the underside. The frame is from a 1980, the body is from a 1980 the only part that seems to be from 1969 is the vin tag. That's a hell of a conversion don't you think?

Why not call the dealership and ask exactly what they have? Name and phone number are in the ebay listing.

Like I said, these conversions commonly used a bunch of parts, combining 68-75 convertibles with 80-82s. My '81 conversion was like that.
I would be interested in seeing the title, whether there's a salvage or junk notation on it (although that's easily washed), and the ViN on the title. I'd also be interested if there was a State-issued VIN tag on it somewhere.

It is such a hodge-podge of various years that I'd be concerned as well. Older frame with updated parts. The cabin is 77-82, the interior is 78-82, underhood looks older than that. Lot's of rattle can detailing underneath on what appears to be a tired chassis. What a mess...
