Default Interesting Pace Car

I thought this was interesting, this 8 mile pace car, asking a ton of money. I never understood the thinking behind this, unless car is for a museum seems like a waste to buy a car and never drive it.

The problem of buying any low mileage car is that the intrinsic value (whether higher or higher) is in the low miles. Consequently, buying it and driving it would just decrease the value and you lose money.
I was at Carlisle one year and there was a 1963 Impala SS with a 409 with 39 miles on it. Nice car, but, I wanted something to drive, not store in a museum.

The Buy It Now price is at least $100,000 more than it's worth. He will own it for a very long time at that price. Alot of people put those Pace Cars away when they were new, hoping to cash in years later. It never materialized and they probably over payed for them when they were first out.

Thats the problem... there are so many ultra-ultra low mile Pace Cars out there that they are not special, and some sellers just don't get that.

That would be a nice car to have at around 25k then you can drive it and not worry about running up miles but at 100-130k thats crazy

Buy virtually any new car and you lose money by driving it. I can certainly see buying a car like this (for a reasonable price) if you weren't able to get one in 1978 and driving it just as you would any new car and not worrying about the loss in value. Certainly that's what I'd do if I had the money to buy such a car. It would be great fun to buy a new 1978 in 2016 and drive it as a new car.

If I ever get stupid money (Lotto, inheritance from long lost relative), then the folks at Meacham's will lose their minds when I take one of those cars out to the parking lot and do doughnuts.

Default 14 of them...

A friend of mine bought 14 of these when they were first released. I think he paid $14,000 each. He turned around about a year later and sold 12 of them for $30-35,000 each. He kept the other 2 for decades but I lost track of him so I don't know if he still has them. He made a ton of money off them. I bet he couldn't get $30,000 for them today.
