FS: 1972 Coupe price reduced
The good things: Very original coupe, white with blue interior, base motor, automatic, with ps, pb, tilt/tele, Power windows, stereo AM/FM, AC.
Straight body, excellent paint, no-rust-ever birdcage, excellent frame.
I acquired this car from the 2nd owner in 2010. He purchased it in 1978 in Allenton, WI, from the original owner, who bought it at Van Camp Chevrolet in Milford, MI. I do not have the original owner's information.
New brakes in 2010. New carpet and seat covers 2011. New mufflers and exhaust extensions, 2010. It has a correct jack and handle and hook, but the fiber bucket above it is gone. It also has a correct wheel and a spare tire, as well as spare tire stowage assembly. The black t-top bags are present, as you can see in the one picture. The tray is there for the rear window as well.
Shielding is all present, but not all pictured.Tank sticker is still on the tank. There are 69k original miles. It has almost all of the original factory components. In fact, it still has the original factory-installed rear shocks. Wipers and wiper door works, as do headlight doors. This 72 appears just to have not been messed around with or bubba-ized.
Asking $12,900
The not so goods: I believe it has a head gasket leak. After I start it, as it gets warm, it starts blowing white smoke out the exhaust. The original turbo 400 leaks, probably from sitting for about 10 years. I rebuilt the tilt/tele column, but did something wrong, because the key won't release. Otherwise, the tilt/tele works perfectly. The ac, I'm sure, does not work, although the compressor turns. It's been several years since I started the car.
I'm selling because I realize I'm not getting to the car, and need to get it to someone who would appreciate it. Since I got it, I've done a 62, then a 67, and now a 71 LT-1 convertible, and it's just time to let the 72 go. I'm about an hour and 15 minutes north of Chicago's O'Hare airport.
It's best to pm me or email through the forum. I can call you if you want me to.
I'm attaching a sheet with all the component numbers on the car. The windshield has been replaced and the starter is not original. You can see how original this 72 is. It has been repainted white at some point in the past. It appears to me that the motor has never been apart and that the intake has never been removed. The interior needs new pillar posts. The original blue seat belts are included, but are not in the car. They do not retract. The shoulder belts are there and work fine. There is a small repairable tear in the passenger door panel on the top, as pictured.
The original rocker panel moldings with the tabs are still on the car, and the one still has the original bolt in the tab.

This is not a show car--it is a VERY original-component straight 72 that needs a bit of love from a guy that can fix a few things.

You're right. Should be a 544 not a 950. Didn't ever notice that. Curious how that alternator (Corvette-only) got on this car, with about the correct date, even!

Sold and in my garage. Needs some mechanical TLC, but should make a nice original driver when done. Will update with pics and details when I get a chance. 62corvette (Mike) a pleasure to deal with. Car honestly described and fairly priced by a very knowledgeable Corvette guy. Would buy another car from him in a heartbeat.
Anyone want to buy a driver quality 57? (see C1/C2 ads)
