FS: '76 Corvette Stingray- Silver/Red L48 4 spd, 40K orig. mi., #'s match, runs $SOLD
Hi all,
New to the forum, but selling my always family owned 1976 Corvette Stingray, L48 4 speed T-top with only 40K original miles and asking SOLD. Car is currently located in San Jose, CA. Tons of pics on the photo bucket site at the end, with more coming, and more specific taken on request for potential serious buyers.
Superquick history:
- Purchased new in 1975/76 by my parents, stored in house garage on the east side of Cleveland, OH until 2006 (w/ 36K miles)
- Shipped to downtown Houston, Texas in 2006 where I took over ownership. Stored in my house garage in downtown Houston, TX until 2014 (w/ 39.5K miles)
- Shipped to San Jose, CA in 2014 and stored in house garage till current (40,088 miles currently).
The Good:
- #'s match, all original miles
- clean inside and out, but far from a "show car". This is meant to be driven and enjoyed
- runs like a top currently, smooth transition, engines hums nice
- clean title, in my name (prior owner is brother, prior owner is parents)
- car is ALL original, except for back bumper (replaced 2012) and I believe the cassette player is aftermarket, replaced in the 80s
- New tires 2012 (< 5K miles)
- brake system rebuilt in 2014 (brakes are awesome)
- All gauges (fuel, water temp, etc) work
- new radiator, spark plugs, gasket heads May '16. New P/S Oct '16
- external lights pop and work as expected
- power windows
- You can't drive down the street or park any public place without getting honks/"hey man, that car is awesome"
The Bad (refer to pics on photo bucket for more insight and/or shoot me your questions);
- Unfortunately I did not own the car for the first 30 years (the car is older than I am), so I have no service records or any history on what was done with the car during this this time. This said, I've had it/maintained worked with it for almost the last 10
- There is some rust particularly on the under carriage of the car, towards sides.
- Several dings/nicks/scratches in the original paint, particularly on the t-tops. Almost all paint imperfections are not noticeable at any distance, but they are definetly there in what is a 40+ year old paint job.
- Since the back bumper is not original, and was painted, it is not a 100% match to the original.
- door ajar light always on
- internal right turn signal does not light
- right speakers do not work
- A/C fans work but limited in how cold in actually blows (that type of coolant is now illegal and not readily available for sale)
- Driver's seat does not incline forward
- Tear in leather interior on driver side door right next to the lock button
- Not registered in CA, last registered in TX
Trying to keep the post short but could go on and on, so ask questions as needed. Thanks for looking ! - Chris

Great color combo and well priced. You mentioned some rust under the car, this could be normal surface rust but you should try to get some photos. Good luck with the sale but due to your family history with the car you may want to think about keeping it.

Question since i am far from a pro - surface rust vs what else exactly? Since the car was in Ohio (in the highest point/snow point) for so long it was certainly exposed to moisture due to snow/ice, but not sure what to look for in terms of specific rust problems.

Yet two more local deals fell through (due to buyer cash/low *****, not the car), so another bump here...
To some of the private messages I've been getting - I haven't been able to get the car on the lift to take shots of the underside to further inspect any rust issues. There is only one shop in the area where the car is currently (Cupertino), and the shop has been non-stopped slammed with real work, so they haven't been willing to accommodate my request to put it up (even for an easy $50). I'll keep trying on that, but the work days are so busy I do not have a ton of time to deal with a super busy family owned shop on a 40 minute lunch break. I may try to find a "Quick lube" or some other type of drive through repair place that I can pay to just put it up, but these type of places seem to be really limited in the central silicon valley area...
long story short, car is full on for sale Happy Sunday Vette lovers !

You can get pictures without a lift. I'm sure many buyers would appreciate a picture of the bottom of the birdcage at the A pillar. Just take the 4 screws holding the door sill plate off and pull the piece out. Flashlight, camera, voila! You can do the same for just about everywhere underneath, just light it up first so the camera can focus. Or turn your flash on instead of auto. Pictures, pictures, pictures...
Such a great looking car.

underside pics updated into the photo bucket link (just crawled under with an iPhone 6s) Crawling around under, any rust really this seems just like localized surface rust (see last two pictures on page 1 of the album)
If any one has specific interest in a certain area, let me know and I can take more.

you can still egt the r-12 freon for the a/c. don't know who told you it is illegal to posses.
the door ajar light is because of a bad door switch or wire off the the existing switch, easy to fix. so the bads are not that bad after all!
