Default 1970 427 TRI-POWER Coupe 4-speed..??

My Friend has a 1970 427 TRI POWER coupe with out air, power windows or any power acessories. I told him they did not make any Tri Power 427's in 1970. Who is right? And if it IS a true survivor, is it worth much? Its Donnybrook Green, I think.
Thanks,
Craig

No 427 in 1970. They moved to the 454.

This is the last one and has a 427 from the factory, with numbers matching.
Can you fake numbers on block? I do not know.

Can't be original motor. They went through this in the CAC a while ago. There was a Vette owner in Clearwater claiming he had a 70 with it's original LS-6. (No LS-6 Vettes built in 70), Another Forum member went over to see it and document it with some pics. Engine had no pad stamp, and he had no documentation as far as window stickers or build sheets whatsoever.
so????
These day's if your're going to try and pawn a one-off on me, you'd better be prepared to prove it. Doubting Thomas...... you bet!!!!

Buy the Corvette Black book and look it up yourself and prove it to the guy that you are not a sucker. There were absolutly NO factory 427 corvettes in 1970, and none even with the 454 had Tripower. He is trying to BS you.

Everything can be faked.

Is he the original owner? Or did he buy it from someone and pay a premium price for such a 'rare' car?

First: Roger's Corvette Center has all options online (from the Black Book)
http://www.rogerscorvette.com/specs/70.htm

Second: EVERYTHING can be faked. You can grind/sand out Serial Number Pads and buy a stamping kit to put on the number matching the VIN. You can buy or make window stickers saying anything. You can even make tank stickers.

And you'd be surprised how many people know their cars are fake, but won't admit it. Down at my friend's shop, a guy brought in his '69 Z28 for service (with all the "matching numbers") and we found a linkage still welded to the frame for an automatic tranny and a jagged cutout for the floor shifter!!! He still maintained it was an original Z28, not a clone.

I don't know if this makes any differance but.....a friend of mine owned a 1970 elcamino SS427 tri power 4 speed. he bought it new that way...found out later in life that they only made something like 12 of them.

That is very interesting! and very  if true, but doesn't at all change what we BELIEVE to be true about corvettes... We have heard about 1970 LS6 cars, and 1969 LT1 cars, and more than 2 ZL1 vettes, and lots of found in barn stories, but I haven't heard of any 1970 tripower 427 corvettes.

It would be interesting to see if the engine has the vin derivative stamp that matches the car. Yes it can be faked, but i would still like to know if it has that # on it. :) MJ

More than likely then it was a Yenko Or Copo as they would use pretty much exclusivley 427's in all their buildups of factory cars. I BELIEVE they went to the 454 in 71 or 72 but am uncertain.

If this is infact a REAL 1970 427 x3 then he has a VERY rare car as I have searched everywhere on the web and through the black book and no 427 option was offered in 1970.

I can see the possiblity of the engine in the El Camino, but not the vette. WIth the strike and shortened production run, the initial 1970 vettes started production later than most model years. The likelihood that left over 1969 model year parts made there way into a 1970 is highly unlikely. I would also have to believe that this car would have been "known" in the vette community at some point.

Check the broach marks on the stamp pad. NCRS did an article about original broach marks vs. fakes. Something about originals being one way and fakes being another.

I would need to see good proof of that car. I say it doesn't exist from the factory. Never seen one, let alone ever heard there might be twelve.

And as for the 427 tripower 70? Another big foot story....

There were only 350 an 454 engines produced in 1970, no such 427 engines in 1979
