Default Looking for a Guinea Pig - Calmap 6 for Windows (not really)

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a guinea pig or two to help me test some software and gather some info.

Way back in 2005 I started a thread about how great it would be to find the old source code for Calmap 6 to port it to Windows. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...urce-code.html After finally getting some free time I emailed John Meaney but unfortunately he has no documentation. So I purchased a serial sniffer http://www.stratusengineering.com/EZTap.html and have been trying to figure out the communications between Calmap 6.32 and the Accel ECU.

I put together something super rough that just reads the base fuel map table and lets you edit it. It does nothing more and sometimes not even that correctly. It does not have any RPM or MAP axis information or show you what cell is in use when driving. It is purely a rough prototype.

Right now all I know is it works with my ECU on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop using a craptastic Staples USB to serial adapter. I'd like to see if it works in other cases.

Looks like everyone dumped their old Gen 6 DFI stuff or don't mind Calmap.

I've been working on the RPM axis for the base fuel map and saving/loading the base fuel map. I'm trying to determine exactly where the RPMs fit on the grid. For instance, with a fuel cell size of 450 RPM Calmap shows the following.

If the fuel cell size is 450 and there are 16 cells you'd think the max RPM would be 7,200 instead of the 6,800 Calmap shows. I assume the first cell is 0 to 450, the second cell 450 to 900 and so on. I guess driving at a steady RPM will answer some questions.

Here's what I did with the RPM axis until I get some more info.

I'll get the Y axis which is different depending on if you're running MAP or Alpha-N working next. After that comes ignition.

Hopefully someone will help me out to see if it works with other ECUs and laptop hardware.

Mike send me an email at Lane53099@yahoo.com and we can talk about it. I have an Accel DFI Gen 6, that I play around with from time to time. I switch it out with the stock ECM, that has a chip. It's a plug and play setup.

Thanks Randy.

I'll send you an email soon. The serial communication seems a little odd so knowing if it works for other PC setups would really help.

Bumping this because I'm still looking for a volunteer or two. I posted this over at Third Gen in hopes to finding some help.

I put things on hold for a bit due to serial communication problems. I was able to get the name of the guy -Perry Paielli - who wrote the original software back in the late 80s from John Meaney. He gave me some info that helped.

So, if you have a Gen 6 DFI box and want to try it just let me know

Here's is a slightly updated picture.

It *should* edit the fuel table, save table to file and read table from file. I can read the sensor data but don't yet know the functions to display the proper value. "Show current cell" works but no trace yet. If it seems to work I'll post the information I know so anyone who wants to write some software can do so.

Default I'll help!

Mike, I know it's been over a year but if you're still looking for someone to help you I'm in. I'm still running a Gen 6 system in my 454 SS.

Yeah it's been over two years. I definitely underestimated the number of people suffering with DFI 6 because i didn't find a single person here or on the ThirdGen board

I haven't looked at it in a while but I think I left off after getting basic editing of the Base Fuel Map and Ignition Map tables as well as saving and loading those tables to/from files.

Give me a few days to find the latest version and double check that it does what it is supposed to do.

Great, looking forward to it.

By the way, I have a book titled "Tuning Accel/DFI 6.0 Programmable Fuel Injection" By Ray Bohacz which discusses the interactions between the sensors, the ecu and the software. If you don't have it, I'd recommend getting a copy.

I'm still trying to find time to double check the latest version I put together. The snow here has been insane!

If I can get some info on now the sensor values translate to actual values I'd be pretty happy. The only ones I know for sure are the RPM and MAP.

I have a Gen 6 system if anyone wants it, or if it would help with this project. I won't ever use it, I don't think.

Do you have a wiring harness for it?

Way back when when I bought my DFI 6 new (I think it was in the 90's ) I got a plug-n-play harness from White Racing for my 91. You plug the existing harness connectors into one end and the other end into the DFI and you are done. It is super fugly but made installation super easy.

Is this how most DFI 6 people did it or did they use a whole new harness?

Yes, I do.

Pics HERE, in an incorrectly titled thread. It is a Gen 6...not a Gen 7.
