Default LS swap TT 4.8 into C4

this is looking more affordable all the time. a 4.8 block with good internals swapped into a c4

very strong engine, and there is more turbo support for the LS engine

I have the engines and turbo manifolds, looking to see if anyone is interested???

If you can go 5.3
lil better power and better spool while still proven to 800rwhp

I actually have a lunati 4.0 forged crank that I might use

looking for good wiseco boost pistons with a small bore

no expert, but aren't the 4.8 / 5.3 motors a small bore with a different crank?

like to use the short stroke crank and just more boost to hold down the low end torq and bring it all in up top with boost by speed

I like the lsx motors but a sbc 350 can make some damn good power and is so much more readily available! I did the ls swap in a c10 and had nothing but regrets with how much money it cost me. I purchased the motor for $800 at the time 5.7 then the pan would not fit so another $100 also put a carb on it the vc jr design $800 at the time this was the manifold and the ignition. swap mounts $150 trans adaptor $50 Then I couldn't find headers at the time until a guy on the c10 forum popped up with some custom made used ones for $600 when all was done cam etc I had a small fortune in a motor that prob was not over 400hp This was 5 years ago so maybe the prices are a lot better now but I could have done a fully forged sbc with aluminum head and a power adder for what I had in that thing. How much power can these make all stock with a turbo? I think they are gr8 motors but it was expensive when I did it.

4.8 is small stroke and bore
5.3 is reg LSx stroke and small bore
5.7/346 is 3.89 bore and 3.622 stroke

4.8 is great STOCK if you are looking for low tq with good top end on boost. Throw a couple of 58mm snails on and let it eat.

it's kinda cool to have a high rev LS motor

looking for the best place to buy some diamond turbo pistons for this beast

what do you all think of running a 4.0 forged crank with the small bore size?

I thought it was a dumb idea until I saw Jon Kasse stroke a little ford mod motor and wreck the joint with 800 NA

as you can see this is a very old thread.

I have a few nice 4.8 forged internal motors in process as they are cheaper than any SB chevy I have found

the 4.8s nobody wants and they are great for boost

let me know if you need one.

the swap isn't easy, but it's not horrible either. If I can muster the $$ I'm going to swap one into my old C3 which has a wheezy SB chevy and run a megasquirt or a tuned 411 PCM (it can control the 480LE tranny)

let me know if you are serious about the swap, the 35s will flow plenty but packaging the turbo plumbing is VERY tight on the c4

look at how LPE and Callaway did it and you'll get the idea.

I like the sledgehammer turbo design. very nice.

Rkreigh,

What is done to those 4.8's? I have been contemplating a LS/6l90 swap for my fathers car, he always was a small cube high rev guy. Probably with a single precision PT74 entry level turbo setup. Keep costs low.

Do you know what reluctor is on those you have?

the 4.8s have lunati rods, wiseco pistons (.040 over) and stock crank. 23 reluctor, (although the crank is out, parts are still at the machine shop and the reluctor is ez to swap if needed)

I would steer clear of the 6L90 due to difficulty tuning and getting it to live at high HP. I have a 480LE that would be better suited if you can afford it or I also have a 4L65E which is a stock vette tranny and RPM can build it for up to 1k at the tire.

PM me if interested. I have a whole bunch of 4.8s I'm building for local drag racers interested in going LS
