Default p600b is not too small for a 383

Update on the upgrade from a paxton sn2000 to procharger p600b.
A lot of folk say it's way too small for a built 383, but....
Dealing with I believe to be spark blow out at the moment-need new plugs and gap down to 28thou from 40, but in the meantime ran it to just 5000rpm before spark blowout and it hit 12lbs! At 4000rpm stayin at 7 to 8 lbs. Who says it can't push 10+ lbs in a 383!?

Using the ebl p4, it's soldered into a 730 ecm. Just plug in a usb cable to your laptop for flashing and datalogging.
Just got done with it so the paxton is sittin a box. With the paxton you need to limit the rpm of it to 40000 or you'll blow it.
I had mine shifting at 5000rpm to keep the paxton below 40000rpm impellor.
at 5000 rpm the paxton would push 5 to 6 psi on my 383.

Yeah you defiantly don't want to over-spin the an series blowers. They will grenade quick. The p600 is a nice step up from the sn.

I am moving up to a D1 since I rebuilt my P600b... I was afraid of the high spins as well but I know it can make power! What heads do you have? HP..?

curious...why did you rebuild the p600b? How many miles?

Did something go wrong with it?

I ask because I have a p600b on mine.

I actually did for several reasons...

First... I couldnt get anyone to tell me that if I went with a 2.65 pulley that I would be able to make good power out of my motor without belt slip... Goal is up to 700rwhp.
Second, I didnt want to route the oil lines again and have to buy an inline filter etc... It ended up that upgrading the blower itself was just almost the same price as rebuilding and getting everything else I would need to get the blower working.
Then lastly the step up ratio is better. My builder built my motor for around 9.1 compression with dished pistons. So I think the D1 will give me more room than just making my 1998 P600b spin near the top of its limits.

Nothing wrong with the P600b and mine was great except for rebuild... And quite honestly it was working fine until I sent it for rebuild. I just figured since I bought it with the car and that I was having the motor rebuilt I should get the P600b checked as well, luckly I did!

AFR 195 heads. Got the bigger flywheel pulley from blowerworks-7.75 inch and running the 2.55 inch p600 pulley with blowerworks bracket, 6 rib belt and no slip. Still well below the max 60k impellor speed at 6000rpm.
But hell....guess I'm pulling the engine again.
Less than 12k miles on it, short block put together by M&R engines Glendale Ca. Back then they had a good rep-just starting to go downhill as I went to them (didn't know it then) and now closed/owner in the wind!
Looks like they didn't bother to file fit the rings even tho they gave me a build sheet with specs of 0.032 top ring gap. With the xtra boost that did it-number 8 must have butted the ring ends and broke off the top ring lands off the piston. Also all compression low-wrong hone for the rings probably.
Looking at Pettis in Hesperia Ca. now-anyone used them?
Also while its out may as well freshen up the 700r4.
Anyone use Mike's Trans in Lancaster CA? So far feedback is good for both those shops.
Trans was last built street/strip by probuilt, but haven't been able to get ahold of Dana. I've seen his feedback going down on the forums.....Last time I saw him seemed like he maybe was having health issues-would explain a lot as he's a one man shop.
I used to be able to drop the trans in 4 hrs and pull the engine pretty fast too....but I'm getting old now! This sucks!

Mikes does some awesome work but I'm not sure how they do with 4l60's. I got mine done in Torrance by a shop that is known for their 4l60's. There were several street racers there when I was dropping mine off; a definately good sign. The guy specializes in 4l60 work and has some tricks he does to them.

I too talked to Dana but it sounded like he was winding down about 2 years ago. He wanted to sell the parts but wasn't as excited about rebuilding mine. That was about 2.5 years ago.

Pettis is involved in the psca and nmca which shows their talent.

Where you located? I used to have get together a with the other c4 supercharged guys. Collectively we have a ton of experience and time on here. It'd be good to add another member!

What's the name of the shop in Torrance? And how recently were you there and they were doing good work?
I used to live in Big Bear, but now down in Rialto just below Lytle Creek so not far at all!
I have tunercat, wideband etc so could help out with those if needed.
