Default Turn signal switch broke!!!

OK...the turn signal wand itself didn't break off, but the little back box it is connected to in the column is broken one side making the right turn signal not click into place. Now it just kinda flops around. However the wand still clicks down for the left turn signal to work, but unless you turn the wheel you can't turn it off. Anyone ever run into this before?

yep, real common on all GM's. Depends on which part actually broke, but Auto Zone sells a replacement kit for the turn signal mech. Other parts come from the dealer.

Just had it done 3 weeks ago. Do not buy it from the dealer. They want $221. Napa Auto Parts wanted $236. Go to http://www.gmpartsdirect.com Part#2601-5119. It is called a "Combination Switch". $115 plus shipping. It takes 7-10 business days to get to your house. It's worth they wait just for the savings. This part # was for my '91. I can't imagine that the part # would be different for any other C4. You can always call the dealer for the part #. But I would not buy it from them.

hi there guys,
im so glad i seen this post and helpful info!
iv got the same problem with my 1991 model vette as well!
the pin is missing where the stork/lever is connected to the steering colum and it just flops around all the time!
it looks like they get a bit of wear on the stork/lever bracket where it fits onto steering colum do they?
its really annoying me and i want to get it fixed!

is it a big/costly job to put new one on?

do i need just the little bracket or do i need to buy the whole new lever/bracket?

does the steering wheel have to come of to repair it/replace the new one?

any other help or advice would be great also r.e this problem?
gm parts diredct didnt have a picture i wanted to see of it!
thanks

Somewhat similar problem here -- I can't turn my bright on (which is probably better than not being able to turn them off!). Could this be the same switch?

(1) just over an hr of labor for a good mechanic.

(2)should not need the lever . The lever snaps into the "Combination Switch"

(3) steering wheel does need to come off. (so disconnect battery so airbag does not go off)You have to do this to access the combination switch and its wires inside the steering column.

Remember, this switch is made out of plastic. Over time wear and tear will take its toll.

I'm going to guess on this one. There are 4 wires connected to the "combination switch"if I remember correctly. So each wire probably has a separate function.

1.turn signal
2.wipers
3.cruise control
4.high beam

You can always call your Chevy Dealer to confirm.

The dimmer switch is on the left side of the column down by the brake pedal and is adjustable/replaceable with two screws. The turn signal lever mounts to the combination switch with a bracket and a single screw and has a bell crank that connects to the steering column with a pin. As far as the Auto Zone part number, you have to check wth them if they have a part for that particular year. There is another current post that has a little more information on getting the switch out, and it may also be up in the tech info.section
