Default 1986 front spoiler

i just installed a new stock front spoiler/air dam on my 86 coupe. i ordered it from corvette central. Man is it low. I measured the distance from the bottom of the spoiler to the ground,2.75 inches. Is that normal? I'm scrapping everything when i drive the car.

I just went down to the garage and measured my 86 and I got 3.75" from the floor to the bottom of the spoiler. When I drive I'm always watching the ground because it is scrap happy . Hope this helps.

I changed the rims and tires from stock 16" to 17" 275/40/17 tires. Maybe thats why its lower.

You aren't alone. I just bought a new air dam from Corvette America, and it's like the road is jumping up to scrape the bugger.
I also have 275/40/17s at all corners, and perhaps lowered the car 1/4".

I'm not too happy with the whole setup. It certainly won't last long with the big dip at the end of my driveway. It becomes a look good feature over form and function I guess.

Gonna have to learn to hit the dips at an angle from now on.

There are two front air dam/spoilers for these cars. One is a 4" unit that was originally for cars with the Z51 suspension and one is 3 1/4" which is for the standard suspension cars. The 4" spoiler that was on my '85 scraped quite a bit. The smaller spoiler that is on my '90 is a lot better and I have the 17" wheels.
