Default Rear End Gear Ratio's?

Hello all, gear ratio question for you. I have a 91 Coupe L98, 6 speed trans. How do I find out what gear ratio is in it? Any help would be appreciated... Mike

Look for your build sheet. I have a 86 and mine is behind the dirver seat compartment. One of those codes is your gear ratio. My code is G44 which is a 3:07. Hope this helps.

it should be on a paper under your console door that is where your rpo codes are

My 93 has a list of RPO's(Regular Production Order?) inside the center console. The Forum has a list of RPO's somewhere? If you think it's been changed then you need to jack it up and rotate the tire 1 full revolution and count the number of revolutions the pinion yoke makes.

I have a local guy at a "corvette shop" telling me that the way to really wake this car up is to change the gears, he says a set of 3:73's are the way to go. Is it worth the money to go from 3:45's to 3:73's?

I would run a search. Many guys running 3:73 and 4:10 combo's. You will get alot of opinions and data.

Some are even pretty good
I guess with the 6th gear, alot of guys seem to prefer 4:10's. I had 3:73's in my L-98 auto combo and did not like them. 6 speed guys seem to enjoy them.

That was my thinking, they want close to 2g's to do the job and if I'm going to spend that kind of $, it better throw me out the back hatch when I stand on it.I don't think 3:73's will do that...but 4:10's might and as you said, I always have 6th gear to cruise with. What didn't you like about the 3:73's?

The 3:73's in my combination made the car run well. At the track, I picked up in the 60' time and 1/8 mile. It made the car violent. However, I lost the gains by the end of the 1/4 mile. After breaking the driveline a few times, I decided they were not for me. They were alot of gear for my auto trans.
6 speeds are very different. Most seem to respond well to them(and the 4:10's)

It's only an 8% gain in acceleration (3.73/3.45=1.08)

$2000 for the change.....run! I think a GM 3.73 ring and pinion with install kit is under $300. Hell a dealer will do it for well less than that.
