That is as far as I needed to go with your story.

the only thing you failed to experience was the right one popping off and landing On the 5 Freeway somewhere around Downey.

Trico Exact fits......should be a Sticky or in a thread containing Archives

Sure would save a few headaches

I ordered; from chevrolet, new wiper blades and new wiper arms for a 1996 corvette. When I put them on I had the same problem, they were to tall.
I had to smash the new GM blades flatter to get them to fit under the hood. They worked fine after that.

Default Yep - this ought to be a sticky

This was the exact info I was needing. I just bought my first Vette (89, 6-speed) a few weeks ago knowing it needed new blades. Went to O'Reilly's and bought the Bosch Excel+ per the computer. Luckily I noticed the problem with their height the minute I closed down the hood after attaching them to the arms.

Luckily the search function picked up this thread - although it is far down the list. Thankfully I was saved from my first post on these forums being a repeat of an issue already resolved.

I got the whole arm for my old Mercedes was told thats all they sold,
it was $125.00
With the new Mercedes.
Got the insert from Winchester Auto Parts and the guy installed it, $18.00
With my van I used 1000 wet and dry sand paper to refinish the edge.
It was free.

Use Rain X and you can forget about the wipers.

Bout the rain-x. But I just get the cheap blades and they last me several years. I think that the more you use them the better they work.

I just bought a set from MadVet, and they sent me the OEM's in 20". C4's are supposed to have "low profile" wipers so they can store properly under the rear lip of the hood.

I just get the cheap ones from AutoZone, whatever is in the $10/ea range. They can both be replaced in a matter of minutes and they both clear the hood just fine.

The only complaint is that the driver side, when on high, can fly off the side of the windshield because it's too tall. This isnt so bad, but it can eventually scrape the windshield's outside frame. Also if you have the windows down a little if its raining, it pushes all that water right over the edge and into the open window.

My next purchase will be the same stuff, but I am going down a size to see what fits best.

I also had the same problem on my '96.Went to a Chevy dealer for oil change and they recommended a wiper change as well.I said,of course-do it.Several weeks later i had the car out in the rain and the wipers would not come out from under the hood.I said, what the hell!!After further investigation i then realized that hey had replaced the entire assembly, and not just the rubber blades, and the new assembly was too tall to clear the hood. The paint was chipped as well-and all this from an authorized Chevy dealer.A real pain in the a.. !! Thanks to this thread,I now know what to look for in a new replacement.

I have a '96 Vette and I am in the process of purchasing just the refills and NOT the blades since there is a lot of talk about the blades interfering with the hood.

I am looking at the o'reilly auto parts website and see a 20" length refill. You mentioned that on the driver side it's 20in and passenger 19in. Did you end up cutting 1in on the driver side?

Which TRICO-Wiper Refill should I purchase:

OPTION 1
•For Trico Tubular Blades
•20 Inch Length
•Front
•Tubular
•For Exact Fit Blade
•Quantity Per Vehicle: 1

OR

OPTION 2
•Universal Plastic For Long Frame Blades
•20 Inch Length
•Front
•Universal
•Plastic
•For Competitive Blade
•Quantity Per Vehicle: 1

OR

OPTION 3
•For Narrow O.E. Twin Rail Blades With Square Claws (6mm)
•20 Inch Length
•Front
•Metal
•For OE Narrow Blade
•Quantity Per Vehicle: 2

OR

OPTION 4
•Break-To-Fit
•For Square Claw Twin Rail Blades (6mm)
•16 to 22 Inch Length
•Front
•Break-To-Fit
•For OE Narrow Blade
•Quantity Per Vehicle: 2

Appreciate all you help!

-Leo
