96 Corvette Door Chime Problem
Hello all. I have a 96 Collector Edition and my door chime (you know the ding...ding....ding you hear when you open door with lights on or key in ignition) does not sound right or like it used to. Sounds muted and drawn out....if that makes sense. Anyway, I am curious to know if anyone has experienced this and has any pointers for me. Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem with my 96, when I bought the car last year it didn't chime or anything, I didn't even know it was supposed to chime. One day it started chiming but muted and not quite right. If I get really bored I'll try to figure out where the thing resides in the dash, but the urge hasn't really struck me.

Are all your interior lights working? I had a blown fuse that made my an odd buzzer sound. It turned out to be the fuse that controlled the interior lights to the doors etc.

My 95 doesn't make any sound. Is it because I have an aftermarket viper alarm? Not that I'm complaining because it is anoying but it could have saved me from draining the battery twice with the lights left on.
Thanks

I've had the same problem and looking through the Factory Service Manual it show the module behind the DIC right on top of the PKE module.
NOTICE CONTENTS SENSITIVE TO STATIC ELECTRICITY
REMOVE
1. Perform step to remove upper trim pad
2. I/P harness connector from module
3. Separate velcro from PKE module
To install reverse

I've replaced the one on my 94. If you follow the FSM procedure, you can do it yourself. It is a PITA to do but as long as you take your time and follow the FSM you'll be alright. Don't try and force anything or you'll end up snapping off mounting tabs and such. After all, you're dealing with 10+ year old plastic! You may want to start looking for a new/used chime module now. When I did mine about 3 yrs ago, they were getting hard to find. I ended finding a used one thru the forum.
