I removed my Bose stereo, now my car won't start
I would post in the audio section, but I feel that this goes beyond audio.
Is the Bose unit essential in an 1988 for proper function of my car. I removed my stereo and unplugged what could be unplugged and wired according to the diagram I had.
I turned the key expecting to hear my music, but my car would not start. In addition the speedometer/odometer lcd displays were all screwy looking. The car did not crank.
I am frustrated. At this point I wonder if I should just put the bose back and hope my car starts.
Do they have electrical or audio people that I could pay to come to my house to remedy this?
I should have bought I newer Corvette!

Dont let it get to you, someone will pipe in with the answer. Did you try posting this in the audio section? Tons of knowlege over there. The new cars are even more complicated, stick to what youve got.

Thanks for the replies.
I have put so many hours into working on this car. I just finished putting in Bosch injectors, a new cat and precats and was finally ready to have sound.
I will try to remain positive.

Did you disconnect the battery when you were working on the audio system? If not, you may have blown out a fuseable link. There are three of them behind the battery.
Hope this helps.

You have my sympathy. The ground and fuse suggestions make sense to me.
I will comment that your thread title is a great expression of C4 angst, circa 2007. Dodgy general electronics, Corvette-specific parts, and aging cars ...

I unhooked the negative battery cable before doing anything.

Did you use one of the plugs that plug into the factory stereo? OR did you end up cutting wires?
Reason I ask, is then I can tell you the color of the wires that you used, or should have used.
I did car audio/video for 12 years.

Just this past weekend I finished removing my entire Bose system from my '88 and replacing it with a GM/Delco unit and 4 new speakers. Sometimes I wouldn't disconnect the battery, and between the doors/hatch open and me testing the radio, I drained the battery. And on mine, when the battery goes, not only does it not start, but sometimes the display gets all messed up.

Hello. I did use one of the three plugs that plug into the bose, the black one with pink, yellow, grey, and black wires. I had to cut these wires and solder them to the wires from the new stereo wire harness.
I connected black to black (ground), pink to blue (power antenna), yellow to red (switch power), grey to orange/white stripe (illumination).
From the orange and brown wire connector, I connected the orange wire to yellow (battery power).
I also ran new speaker wire from new stereo to new speakers.

Are you sure your battery is not dead? I would put it on a charger for awhile then try again.

Hello, tomorrow I am going to Sears to get a new battery. I just replaced the battery a couple months ago. It was low.

I put the door panels back on, and I am hoping that one of the connectors touching metal was the cause of the cluster looking like an atari 2600 cartridge that was not properly seated.
My battery read just over 5 volts. Hopefully everything will be fine when I get my new battery today.
It has been stressful. The dealership just replaced my ecm, fuel pump, fixed a leak in the fuel rail, and a couple other things for $1,500. My car still wasn't right and died up the street. I put on a new front y and converter. I installed new Bosch injectors because my plugs kept getting fouled by fuel. Hopefully everything will be right today.
