Just bought 88 Vette vert want to increase hp suggestions please
I just got a 1988 corvette convertible automatic and was wondering what people here on the forum with knowledge of the l98 engine suggest doing to increse the horsepower. I have about 3k to spend on performance.

Start with the exhaust system. Install longtube headers, remove the pre cats, install a high flow cat and you prefrence of mufflers or eliminators. The price will depend on the mufflers and headers you pick and if you do the work yourself.
Then install a better intake and 1.6 roller rockers.

My 88 Vert has 2.73 gears. Soon to be 3.54s. I would send the plenum to tpis to be ported. Get a set of ASM runners and a bigmouth base manifold. Get catbacks, Check your state regs before you install headers, remove cats or precats. Crane or Comp Pro Magnum 1.6 RRS are a good mod.

I vote for Cam. Best bang for the dollar. And it makes all the other mods MORE worthwhile. Intake is a big restriction. Go with Baseplate , runners and plenum. And I'm not saying that becuase I do them. Heads on the '88 are not bad. Aftermarket heads are very expensive. Vette exhaust is pretty good too. I gotta say Cam swap. Wish I had done that first. -Mike
