Muscle or Sports car

I think that it depends on what engine and transmission is in the car. I would have to classify an L88 as a muscle car and a LT1 equipped C3 as a sports car.
The new C5 though with either the LS1 or LS6 would be considered a sports car by me mainly because they handle so well.
This is all just my opinion.

Handling = sports car
Acceleration = muscle car
I've always considered my corvette a sports car, but to be honest I bought it because
of its acceleration and appearance. The handling part was just a bonus.

Re: Muscle or Sports car (dppeaden)
According to a special I saw on TV one time named "the top 25 muscle cars of America", the Corvette is calssified as a sports car due to it being only a 2-seater. I guess muscle cars are more of a normal family car that has been modified or "beefed up" to be a fast straight line performer, eg. 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W30.... definately not your father's oldsmobile, unless you had a real cool dad! The CamStangBirds would be considered in my book, a "pony" car, I guess brought about by the genre that the mustang invented. Sortof a cross-breed... not quite a real muscle car, not quite a real sports car. Cheap enough for the pimply-faced highschooler to afford, and some were lame enough (inline 6, three-on-the-tree, et.al.) to be all "image" and no substance, perfect for the young female professionals.

Re: Muscle or Sports car (kd4pbs)
I say a blend of both. More power than most american cars, but too heavy as a true sports car. Some models will tend to go more one way than the other. Very good bang for the buck, but would be incredible with 1,000 pnd diet. :yesnod:

Best of both worlds..
Equally at home on the drag strip, road course, autocross track, dry lake bed, open highway, twisty mountain road....
