Default Headliner Repair

This has to be a common question but the headliner on my 94 Targa is hanging down. There are no tears and it is attached all the way around the perimeter. How hard is it to re-glue the liner back to the top and what adhesive will withstand a nice hot sunny day? Thanks!

Autozone or Advance Auto sells a spray adhesive that is used to hold the material. Remove the foam from the roof, clean off the old glue as best you can, then if your material is in good shape you can reuse it or buy new.( I went to WalMart's fabric department and got a heavier material ),Spray foam with adhesive, place material on foam and use a roller or something else to push material down good and even, spray some around the edges and fold material around edge and press down, after its dry use double sided tape( I used Permenent Double Sided Tape) or a glue to stick foam back on roof. I tried to fix mine myself (spent $50 on materials)....it looked OK, but not the way I was happy with. Then I took it to an upholstery shop, they installed all new foam backed material and had it done in no time. Cost? $47 out the door.

I'd recommend you find someone to do it.

The problem is, the foam backing has deteriorated, causing the material to sag. The only cure is to remove the old material, go to an upholstry store and buy the material (about $20). Buy the SUPER trim adhesive, the others will not stand up to hot days. Check the search function, this comes up about once a month. It's a fairly easy do it yourself project.

I had the same problem. Bought a can of 3M spray adhesive and 2 yards of similar black fabric at Jo Ann Fabrics ($7 for fabric, $3 for spray I think).

Used a knife to cut the old headliner out, cleaned the padding vigorously, then put in the new fabric and cut it around the edge. Looks great, feels great, and cost me $10. Really not difficult at all.

I went to an upholstery shop and had it done in thick padded black leather. I was tired of the BS fixes, so I FIXED it about 6years ago.

I took a pocket screwdriver and tucked it back in around the edges to tighten it back up, about a year and 1/2 ago. It's still tight and it didn't cost a dime for materials, and about 20 min to do.
