WHY???? the TPI intake and its joker base manifold should have never lasted past 1985. freakin' nimrods.

That is a true statement. My favorite thing about my L98 is that shes mine.. paid for ten years now..
For the record my stock L98 banishes Camrys easily, and most 4.6L mustangs.. Its really about torque something the L98 is good at.. Also the L98 C4's are lighter than their LTx brothers and sisters and c5 and c6's... 25-30 mpg hwy is nice too.. all with a nice soundtrack..
I am wrestling with something though Dusty's L98 is very very tired now. 230,000 miles.. its time for an overhaul.. the question is semi wild 383 or massaged, freshened 350 for mileage and another 200k of grins? Leaning freshen and tune. A ground pounder might be fun too..
She was rode hard and put away wet before I bought her at 100k.. figured then that id put her back together when time came..
others can plunk down 60 to 100k for new, that buys lots of gas and parts..

I think because its was produced in the early 80's
Most people think of the 80's performance cars as Slow.
A bad time for performance.
Most of these people are the ones from the 60's and remember the Muscle cars.
One thing they dont remember is that a stock L98 can run with allot of those 60's cars that where rated in Gross Hp ratings.
They aslo forget the 1988 C4 L98 based SledgeHammer the ran 225mph and was untouchable in the High speed test Contest.
Another 10 or 20 years as people get older the 80's car will start to go up in prices and get more attention.
I have a 1980 Grand Prix, and when I drive it I get offers from people to buy it , thumbs up , kids saying "cool car".
I even got stopped by a cop and he started talking about the car.
Those 80's So called junk cars will have there time.

Of course there's better threads. Ton's of motor/body projects. Picking a thread on the pros/cons of L98 vs LT1 doesn't seem close (unless you're considering the transplant of an LT engine and didn't mention it.)

I am pretty happy with my 87 with the 4 speed it has enough power for me. I would not try to race one of the later Camaro's, Mustangs and such but it had plenty of power through the 4 gears.
I don't really like the overdrive and only use it when cruising on the fwy.

i have a 1985 4+3 z51 with exhaust, high flow cats.intake, runner work.upgraded coil, wires etc.nothing over the top,but it is a fun cheap car to drive.everyone gets hung up on the hp numbers.this is a decent car all the way around that is faster than 230hp will lead you to believe.in the early 90s a guy in my golf leauge drove his 68 427 corvette and talked about how superior it was to my 86 i had at the time.we ran them and im not going to tell you i beat him but it was too close to declare a winner.literally door to door for about a quarter mile.i have several cars that are a lot faster than my old 85 c4,none are any more fun to drive
