L98 Aluminum Heads - When?
I'm getting so much conflicting information from different sources. So, when did GM begin putting aluminum cylinder heads on the L98 engine? Was it "always"? Or did they start putting Al heads on it in a particular model year? I've got an '89 L98. Does mine have aluminum heads? Was this a good idea - or?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Mid year 86 started the Al heads.

1986. Well, that locks it in, pretty well. Thanks to all of you for your responses. Yeah, I might be able to use a magnet to check the heads if my car were not at the shop in Auburn, about 80 miles away... Haven't seen it in a month. I just write checks when they ask for more $.

E86 had iron heads.. L86 and 87 vetes got the 128 aluminum heads. In 88 they went to the 113 heads and are the same heads used on the ZZ4 crate motors. When My 91 had the stock heads I could see the las few numbers of the casting In the oil filler neck.
