Default Radio squeal front speakers

First I've got a very annoying squeal in the speakers on my 1990 C4 with Bose Gold system, radio and cassette, no CD. It's worse when I first turn on the radio and gradually is less but never goes completely away. I've put new amps in each rear speaker and they both work. I've changed the radio but the squeal persists. My front speakers don't work and I now assume it's caused by one or both of the front speaker amps since the radio exchange fixed nothing except the broken cassette player. How do I remove the speaker covers from my front speakers that are mounted down by your feet, not in the doors. I can't see how the covers are attached to the carpet or does the entire U shaped piece of carpet that covers the bottom door sill have to be removed?

What about the squeal, is it caused by one of the front amps?

Yes, you will need to have both of the amps replaced. If you go to the Audio section, there is a C4 Audio FAQ, everything you need to know is there.

Good luck.

It's happened to most of us. You need both amps replaced.

The same thing happened to my Bose system. Same squeal and I fixed it. I removed the entire Bose system, amps and all and replaced them with an Alpine MP3 player with all new front and rear speakers with an amp. Sounds great now.

I'm just trying to go the cheap route for now instead of replacing the entire system. I fixed the amps in the back speakers and they both work fine. I'd like to just disconnect the front ones until I can fix them to eliminate that irritating squeal.

Well, neither of the front speakers worked anyway so I removed both of them today. I was very disappointed to find I still have a squeal in the radio. I guess now I've got a bad capacitor in one of the back ones again as well.
