Default LT-1 Water pump Install ?

I am getting ready to install the water pump..I have 2 questions.

1. the spline shaft adapter that connects the water pump to the engine
has an identification groove cut on the outside of it. Does the
groove go to the engine side or the water pump side or does it matter?

2. the o-rings for this coupler did not come with the water pump. What size is needed.

Thanks

Are you going to change the seal where the shaft comes out of the timing chain cover? I am doing this job myself and am pondering changing that seal?

The seal is difficult to change without the special protector sleeve. Kent Moore makes the correct special tool. Without it the lip gets caught and damaged by the sharp edge on the shaft as you attempt to push it in place which will cause the new seal to leak. Some have reported making a protector from a plastic magic marker body. It might work if it was the right size. The concern would be the unnecessary work involved to go back in to do the job over again.

Default Another do it your self tool

I fit a piece of electrical shrink tubing over the old water pump drive shaft. I lubed it with a little oil and test fit the old seal over it. It seems to work OK with a stiff old worn out seal, so I'm thinking it should work with a fresh pliable new one. Whadaya think?

Sounds interesting, did you shrink the tubing at all or just use a piece that fit?
