Hows the ZF6 Compare to T56?
Id like to swap a 6 speed in place of my '88s 4+3 and the zf6 seems like itd be the cheapest/easiest swap. But Ive never driven a car with the zf6. Is it as smooth/easy to drive as a t56? All I know is Im tired of how the 4+3 feels/shifts. It just doesnt have that smooth feeling.

What kind of servicing should I do? Would a new clutch/flywheel and change of tranny fluids make a difference in how it feels and shifts? Would it make the shifting feel any smoother? Can anyone recommend clutch/flywheel for the 4+3? What kind of fluids does it take?

I own both a T-56 and a ZF6 (LS1 f-body and LT4 C4). The T-56 shifts OK. Mine has the factory Hurst shifter and that helps. The stock ZF6 shifter is horrible IMO, and changing it out is a headache. But, once you do, it shifts much better.
I say base your swap on other factors, such as trans cost, cost to rebuild (T-56 is MUCH easier to get parts for than ZF6), and conversion cost. ZF6 will swap in easier, but the T-56 may be cheaper in the long haul.

well if putting a new clutch/flywheel and changing the fluids will make a huge difference in how the tranny feels than I'd like to keep the 4+3. Anyone know if this would make that much of a difference?

Have both also and I think the ZF may be stronger but to me the T56 shifts 1000 times better. May not be a fair comparison as my T56 only has 3k miles on it and the ZF has 146k. Sure when it was new it was better. Both good trannies though.

Probably every single one built from 1983 onwards? Assuming it's driven to get economy and the gearing is still stock. The 4+3 didn't have some kind of highway mileage voodoo in it, if that's what you meant.
