the best c4 everyday driver
i have an 89 convertable that is almost to nice to drive and have a surburban that is killing me on gas mileage, am thinking about buying another c4 to drive every day, i would like your opnions on which year to buy, i don't really want a hot rod just a good driver, i really am not that crazy about the c5 and especially the c6 cars, being in bowling green i have friends that work in the plant and say that the c4 was the best car they built, thanks in advance.

Best C4 for a daily driver
The LT1 series with a 6 speed is the way to go. You can pick up a good used LT1 for a reasonable price. I'd look at a '95 or '96 as the transmission is a blue tag (quieter) and the shifter doesn't have the lockout to deal with. If you do get an LT1 the first mod you should do is install a CAGS bypass harness. That was the first mod I performed on my car.

Have we reached the point where we start looking a C4s with the same mindset as Honda buyers?
Anyway, a well maintained LT1 coupe. The trans would be determined by the type of commute you have: heavy traffic/ city driving = automatic; long highway trip = 6 speed.

I'm bragging on my 92 vert 6speed with 1.5 roller rockers. I got 36 mpg on a trip from VA to SC at 65 mph on cruise. If you keep your foot out of the injectors these LT1s will give you excellent mileage, but it sure is hard to keep it under control.

The LT1 would be an excellent choice, it would give you variety as you already have an L98, fuel economy is decent for what it is, and it is newer so will in theory be more reliable.

C4 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
If you have a heavy commute with a lot of stop & go the rear ratio is going to make a difference but remember that the LT1 still sucks a lot of gas when it's idling or just rolling along at 20 mph.
Please don't flame... my 95 A4 3.07 is averaging 15 mpg on my daily 50 mile commuter drive and it is getting a bit expensive. Why do I do it? Cause I had to wait 40 years to get it
But it's reliable as hell ....... put over 50K in the 3 years I've owned it and never left me stranded and it does get 23 - 24 on the highway every weekend
