Default Need rear speaker enclosures.

Looking for rear speaker enclosures from a non-bose car so I can put 6x9's in the rear of my 89 when I change the stereo.

If you have them and want to sell or give them to me let me know.

Thanks guys!

I put this here because the Audio section seems to get more c5/c6 posts then c4.

I'm going to take a stab at this...

If you have the Bose speakers in the rear, all you have to do is remove the bose amp and you now have the stock rear enclosure for a 6x9 speaker. The bose amp is an insert into the otherwise stock speaker housing. I think the 89 rear housing is identical to the early C4s. I apologize if I'm wrong.

I'm not sure either. Based on what I have read and it has been alot over the last couple days I thought I needed them.

If this is true...then great!

Anyone confirm for me as clearly I'm confused.

If the housing are the same for the early and late then I believe there are just some 7mm hex head screws that hold the bose speaker and amp to the housing. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Keep in mind that the speaker mounting holes for the OEM 6x9 speaker don't exactly line up with the aftermarket 6x9 mounting holes. They are off about 1/8 of an inch. They still work but you have to be careful when mounting the speaker screws since they go in at a slight angle and you have to start all four at the same time. You might be able to file the holes out a little but I didn't and it worked fine. Good luck.

i can get pics of mine if youd like

My 85 had the bose and i took it all out
i have 6x9 in the rears and used some rubber i had laying around to make a special cusion (sp) so i can use the stock holes, and make my own that line up right along with the ability to use the covers that came with the speakers
should look really nice when they are in

I remember seeing the shape for a 6x9, molded into the mount that holds the Bose box. Mind you. it's been 5 years since I pulled that crap out, so nothings for sure.

There is indeed a cutout for a 6X9 speaker. I have 2 boxes out in the garage but I will have to look to see if there's a Left and Right enclosure.

My 86' did NOT have the Bose option. The factory rear speakers are 6X9. However, if you put in aftermarket speakers, please note the the speaker mounting depth is shallow, so you may be limited in your speaker selection, or you may have to fabricate some spacers to get the speaker and grill to mount up properly.

I had to make spacers for my Polk "db" series 6X9's.

I was looking at Infinity Reference 6x9's 9023i series. Sensitivity seems pretty high which I like since I'm not using a amp. I'm using 6.5 in the door so I wanted to keep it the same.

Says the mounting depth is 3" Wondering if this is my newest problem??

I want to use the stock bose grill so everything looks stock in the car.

Randy: I'll let you know about the enclosures if I need them. You can Pm me the price if you would like.

I really would like to do the 8" subs in the rear but it's just not realistic now for me. So just to get the junk out I was going to go with 6.5 in doors and 6x9's in back running off the deck. JVC-KDAVX2

You can put another size in there. I had some 5 (and something) inchers in there that were three-ways and sounded amazing!

I want to put 6x9's in the rear but don't want to fool around to much with modifying anything.

Still not totally clear on the answer.

So will 6x9's fit in a 89 with bose just by simply yanking out the bose speaker and amp. I'm fine with making new holes but that is about the extent of it.

You are right I just did my 87 Roadster. I replaced the Bose with Kenwood 6x9 and they were a perfect fit even the mounting screw holes lined up

I sold my rear Blose speaker/amps on Ebay and made a mounting plate for 6x9s out of MDF. It was simple and the money I got on Ebay paid for the new speakers.
