Are you sure it's leaking? If you see oil in that area, it could be from the valve cover gaskets, the intake leaking, or the oil pressure sending unit behind the distributor.

valve cover gaskets just replaced
Its one or two drips on start up and one or two drips when you shut it down.

Putting the rear main seal in isn't the problem, they tap in real easy. The hard part is pulling the transmission to get to it. I replaced mine when I pulled the trans for a rebuild. It would have to be leaking pretty bad to pull the transmission just to replace the rear main.If its only a few drips I personally would wait a while to see if it gets worse..WW

I know this is going to sound stupid, BUT my kid is in college and his car had an oil leak, so he did the cheap route and took it to an oil shop and they put in some additive and it has not leaked for a year and a half! only an idea.

The oil could be leaking from the rear intake seal running down the transmission bell housing. Squirt some simple green behind the valve covers and clean it up, watch the area, if it gets shiney again thats where the leak is.

My rear main seal is leaking to the point that the oil gets on the flywheel and clutch making the clutch slip (manual). I have put two new seals in, but neither have stopped the leak. engine has 140k on it, so I suspect there may be a 'wear groove' that new seals are not sealing. Does anyone know about installing a repair sleeve?
