Radar Detectors BANNED in Texas???
I just saw a thing on CNN that said Texas is issuing devices that detect radar detectors to state troopers because radar detectors are banned in Texas! Is this true?? This is the first time I've heard anything about radar detectors being illegal in Texas.

As far as I know, they are only banned in Virginia and one other state (can't remember which ) BTW, the devices to detect radar detectors are called VG2 devices... which lots of radar detectors have cloaking for.

vg2 cloaking doesn't work, and as a general rule, radar detectors are illegal on commercial vehicles and semi's, not individuals cars. they dont wants cabs, busses, and trailers speeding.

Today's (1/16) Austin-American Statesman has an
article about DPS and the eight (yes, 8) cars they have
equiped with radar detector detectors. Radar detectors
are illegal in 18-wheelers, vehicles carrying passengers (bus,
etc.), vehicles carrying hazardous materials, etc. Basically
commercial vehicles of most all kinds. They are not illegal in
Texas in a passenger car.
Have a good'un............

Virgina is the only state now... DC outlawed them, too... and Conn used to have a ban, but lifted it a few years ago.
the VG2 "cloaking" is not as much a cloaking, but a new method of sencing signals. the old style detectors used what was called "Super hetrodyne" technology. super het would send out a low grade signal, and then compare the return signal and indicate strength. the VG2 detects that noise. now, the detectors are a more passive...
