Default Custom carbon fiber and a rear deck spoiler design idea...opinions

With the cash building here on my desk, and my deposit in place I'm getting pretty sure this is the year of the Corvette for me. As is my nature, I will begin concepts for one-off items like I've made for everything else I've owned to truly create a unique car.

While I LOVE the clean, smooth simplicity of C4 91+ body style, I have always been surprised by the lack of accenting, tasteful body mods like many other car genres have. For example, slightly more aggressive front lips, enhanced spoilers that are only a mild exaggeration of the stock one...you know...mild stuff.

So, since I've got 27ft of raw carbon fiber in 12k x 12k twill, I figure I'd like to make a few one-off items to increase the aggressive look of the car. This brings me to my first thought. I grabbed a pic of JDC's car and did a quickie to help visualize what I was thinking.

Lookin for opinions. Keep in mind this is about 10 minutes in action here. So, yes, I'll further refine and work on coloration, as well as the angles in relation to the body. My thoughts are basically flush with the top deck, facing into the rear bumper, therefore looking down the body line from the front its smooth and unnoticeable, but from rear angles it'll create somewhat of a valance similar to vipers or the lingenfelter concept. It would also continue or even SLIGHTLY enhance the "kick up" that is created by the rear bumper off the deck lid.

Kind of influenced lightly from other rear end designs, while incorporating the concept of a drag spoiler. I'd use this in conjunction with a one-off diffuser as well.

What I thought about making is the wheel spats the the C6 Z06 have.I call them that because I have no idea what they are called. This would be something behind the wheel but not a full -mudflap- type deal.

I know exactly what you mean...they are incorporated into the rear diffuser, but you could execute something similar I'm sure. Just gotta keep it tasteful.

i don't know if it's too subtle or just the angle of your rendering, but I can barely make it out... I don't think it makes it look too much different, really. Maybe just a 1/2" to an 1" taller?

Yeah, I know what you mean. The quickness of the rendering makes it blend in. It'd really take me to start mockin up in foam....that or clay...we'll see. I might go hot clay, I've never mocked that way yet, so it'd require tooling. Foam when it doubt and bust out the turkey carver...lol.

Not looking too much different can be a good thing though also. Just gotta strike that balance of sick versus subtle.

Looks like a mini carravagio to me and I like it. Can't wait to see a mock up.

Research on the internet and check out the rear end extension / spoiler treatment that Larry Shinoda designed for the early C4. His products are no longer available. IF you could gin up something similar to that I'd think that you could make a mint.

Here's a quickie redo...kinda sloppy, but this is just a quickie visual for me. It's a little more pronounced and gray to be able to see it a little better. That shinoda is a little much for me, but that was 20 years ago, so I guess that was some pimp stuff. I like subtle but aggressive. Something that could almost be stock, but a little past that.

Then here it's painted, but I didn't really go with the lighting totally correct so you can make it out in the darker parts of the pic.

Tried a diffuser idea....

Then lowered it some more....made me like it a little better........I think...lol. Then again I think just a center diffuser may be much better.

Painting it...kinda...definitely toned it down. Might be not bad that way. I'm thinking it may be too "sharp" for the body lines of the car. Gonna have to make a softer version.

Gotta do something to get these C4's lookin mean like those C6's that are around.

I love that lip on the rear... any better pics of it?

If your gonna run a diffuser like that, your gonna have to do skirts too

Rear spoiler yes, diffuser no. My opinion anyway. I would like to see this mock up and a stock car as well. This car has different wheels, ride height change, exhaust..etc...

If i ever get a C5 i will go with this kit. I think if someone made something similar for the C4 it would be very nice.

Wow, look at that. That C5 rear spoiler is really right on line with what I did here....pretty interesting.

The diffuser was just me p*ssin around until 4am...lol. I really wasn't sold on it, just seein what it could bring. I do think something more subtle, that still provided function, would work.

Its often my way to bury myself in endless projects though, so the spoiler is really my focus. I like it though, I think its got potential.

I think, as with any mod, if you rock a totally stock car, then throwing on something like this can throw it outa whack. It likely would require something more subtle to work on a totally stock car.

We'll see though.... Gotta get my car and start the chaos. I gotta finish up fabbin a turbo setup on this guys Scion I have in my garage right now, then I can get movin.
