Default Distilled water and antifreeze

When I mix my antifreeze, should I use distilled water or regular tap water?

Distilled would probably be the best - the least minerals in the water the better.

Agreed. Distilled if at all possible.

Distilled. In case you didn't catch it.

I use water that has been run through our reverse osmosis system. Same, almost, as distilled.

Try and flush with distilled water and fill with 50/50.

Even flush with distilled, that is a good idea. I know we are fanatical but that is awesome. The great thing is that I will do it. Thanks

Distilled water is pretty cheap (about a buck a gallon at any large grocery store) so using it for flushing won't cost a bunch. And you will only need a few gallons for the final 50-50 mix when the new coolant goes in.

Get 3 gallons of concentrate and 3 gallons of distilled. Pour in one gallon of each into the cooling system and mix the remaining. Use that mix to complete the fill and adding to the lower overflow tank. You will have some left over for whenever it may be needed.

Same here, home filtered water is fine. Remember to change it once in awhile, I've seen some nasty neglected cooling systems.

I change mine every fall and spring, mainly because I cant run atifreeze on race tracks, but I need it to protect the block in the winter.

Well personally I think the distilled water falls into the same camp as changing your oil every 3000 miles...IMHO overkill.

I understand the logic behind using distilled water, but can't say I've ever had a problem using water from a tap...then again I'm on a well and my water is good to begin with so maybe my argument is worthless .

You can also use the water from a dehumidifier if you have one, that's distilled I believe.

Distilled water is Overkill. Good anti-freeze and regular tap water is all you need.

You obviously don't live where the water is hard.
If I didn't use distilled, the rad would have stalagmites.
Distilled is cheap. The inside of the radiator still looks
brand new after 23 years.

We don't drink our water here so much as we chew it.

Distilled water is cheap insurance.

Distilled or Ionized.

Tap water boils at 212 F

Use the stove, try it....

The way I flushed mine is dumped the coolant from the radiator and block.

Filled with distilled.

Ran for a few minutes or so after the thermostat opened.

Let cool.

Dumped the radiator and block.

Filled with distilled.

Ran for a few minutes or so after the thermostat opened.

Then just started dumping and filling the radiator after running it for a few minutes or so after the thermostat opened.

After I got tired of doing that. I dumped the radiator and filled with straight antifreeze.

While running engine I kept filling the radiator with straight antifreeze till I had dumped in 7 quarts of antifreeze.

Then I started filling with distilled and burped it.

I used Zerex G-05 antifreeze. Should be good for 3 years. The green stuff, they recommend changing every year.

What does it mean to burp it and how do you do it?
