any pics of plenum,runners painted
I have to take of my 86 TB to change the IAC. Noticed how nasty the plenum is so I am thinking of taking that off to clean it. I got a new TB gasket kit and it came with plenum and runner gaskets so I am thinking I may take off everything and clean and paint/polish or powder coat. I am also going to do the valve covers as well. I have a black 86, graphite interior. Thinking maybe red valve covers, black runners, polish the plenum. any cool pics would inspire and help. I know everyone digs new pics and showing off their own great work.

I had everything off last year when I replaced my injectors. I don't know about yours, but my plenum and runners were caked with carbon. My initial plan was to just scotch brite the aluminum, but after seeing all that carbon, I decided to get the parts cleaned and bead blasted. I wound up painting them silver and accenting the fins with red to match the body color. They came out pretty good. Powder coating is the way to go in my opinion, provided it can stand the heat. I don't have too much experience with it, so I just went with high heat paint on the plenum, runners and valve covers. I polished the throttle body with a dremel, but you can't really see it in the pics.

Were there any lower bolts missing on either side of your runners? I noticed I had one missing on each side that were directly behind injectors.

Believe it or not, everything was intact and in its correct position. The only thing missing was the bracket that holds the cables on the plenum. Other than that it was all there. It took multiple combinations of sockets and extensions to get everything off though. I recommend getting the Fel Pro intake gasket kit because it will have all the gaskets you need for the job and will save some cash. I did install studs in the heads for easier valve cover alignment too.
I've got pics of the job taking it all apart somewhere, let me know if you're interested and I will try to post them.

One of the best painted combos I've seen was to paint the plenum black, have black valve covers, and silver tubes. They also left the inside tract of the ribs silver (plenum and valve covers).
I think this would look good with red in place of black.
If the tubes were polished vs painted silver, even better. I don't think a polished plenum w/o polished tubes would look that great.

I just did mine in all red with polished ribs, and matte black brackets/alternator, with gloss black pullies. IT looks BOSS, let me tell you. I'll get some pics tomorrow.

Here's mine powder coated red. These were done over the winter when I went through and engine rebuild. I am happy with them, and the powder coat is easy to wipe and keep clean.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Not paint, but powder coated.

Those bolts aren't missing, they come in from the other side! There is only 1 on each runner that goes in this direction.

Now that's Larry! It looks as if the color is close to the interior color, It's like when you raise the hood the engine compartment has a matching interior too!
