Default electronic gauge cluster went blank

Anyone have a similar issue w the electronic gauge cluster going blank ? I emailed the previous owner of this car and he stated that sometimes due to sitting in hot weather it would go blank but come back on.

It did come back on for me but I had to gently hit the top of the dash..

It's a known issue for the early C4s.. Very common and easily addressed...

Here the "fix it yourself" manual....
http://www.batee.com/corvette/dcrg/index.shtml
If you take your time, and read everything through before turning the first screw, you can do it

If your not comfortable doing it yourself, there are some people here that fix them too (Scarabexc comes to mind as someone who has good reports, and history, and I am sure there are others..)

There was also someone here selling a Dakota Cluster a while back for just under a grand as I recall...

Good luck

I hate it when sellers don't come clean up front. I would rather have that conversation before I sell it than after the fact.

Good luck with it

Big diff between his dash and yours. I can't believe anyone would use the "whack it" method on a faulty Corvette dash, never let you work on mine with that mentality.......

I really only tapped the dash a little and it came back on... would like to get it fixed soon but just depends on what I am capable to do. Soldering and stuff maybe not. May have to find someone to do it for me.

Was talking to Hokie, just smack it is his motto.

As for you, that can be an easy fix or a difficult one. If it happens while driving it can be a major pain. I would pull it and try to re-seat it and if that didn't work or I didn't see any bad connections I would get someone to look at it. Don't spend too much as you can get that one rebuilt for reasonable amount which may be cheaper than having it pulled, diagnosed and repaired.

Just a thought.............

Have an 87 and had dim(sun fade) issues. Took out the cluster (easily done) and sent it to a guy who refurbs them in Georgetown, TX. My replacement cluster was delivered within 2 days----of course I live in Dallas----and it's only a 3 hour drive. Regardless, the service was good, the cluster works fine and he gives a 1 year warranty. It cost $275 and was well worth it to me.

His contact information is: Gary Neese

I bought a refurbished gauge cluster from Gary (for my 84), it looks brand new and works flawlessly. I'll give him a resounding recommendation. Great to deal with and FAST service. I attempted the fix in the link previously posted, it fixed "some" of the issues but not all, so I just sucked it up and bought the refurbished unit.
