I would never call anyone a P*ssy for driving an automatic, I own one too. I am 55 with MS and my left side is numbish and on the weak side. I couldnt drive a stick long any more. So an automatic works for me. I have an 87 with the 3.07 rearend and that is fine for me...
I also know many in our club who get automatics as they get older. Their legs dont work quite right, their shoulders are getting stiffer, etc. They just cant drive a stick and have fun. What good is a car that you cant enjoy without pain?
Just my 2 cents worth.

I know some people will call me a p%ssy, but I could no longer deal with the 6spd and clutch on that car. It was like driving a pickup truck and although it was fun at times I often came home after driving back from work with a sore leg and knee. It was just too much (for me) to deal with in rush hour traffic. That nagging issue took the fun out of driving the car in a spirited manner with the use of a manual transmission.

BTW....I like an auto better too. I'm often in the city, and heavy stop and go traffic is a reality. About the thousandth time you push the clutch in it starts getting old. If you want an auto, buy one. I won't even look at a standard trans car anymore.

When I bought my C4 I was tired of driving a manual trans car. I drove an auto, but for me it just didn't feel right. I now have 2-6 speed Vettes.

While I would prefer a 6-speed in my '93, I purposely shopped for a car with an automatic. That way I could let my 2 boys drive it once in a while. The auto has been fine with me, but I am wishing the car had the optional 3.07 gear instead of the standard 2.59
Now with that being said, only after 3 months of driving it, I'm thinking already of looking for a nice LT-4 car.

My 87 is an automatic and I have no real desire for a manual vette, after many years of driving the big trucks with manual transmissions of all types ( 9, 10,13,15,and 18 speeds ) I have changed enough gears.
We have a strange household my vehicles are automatics, Corvette,Toyota Surf,Dodge CTD.
My wife's vehicles are manuals, Mazda MX5, VW Golf,Chev 3500 Diesel.
I like both types but just to go for an enjoyable drive I prefer the auto.

My C4 was an impulse buy with no thought to wanting a stick or auto, just a clean car. It wound up auto and something was missing for a sports car. So, when I shopped for my C5, it had to big a stick.
Being neither are everyday drivers, they both could be stick and I'd be happy. If I were taking on our funfilled freeways everyday to/from work- it would have to be an Auto.

This poll could go in four different ways.
I have a stick in my LT4 and auto in my LT1.
I prefer stick but, auto is nicer for a Sunday cruise day.

obviously it's fairly common knowledge that 75 percent of vette production (give or take for any generation) is automatic. I think you'll have a bit higher preference for the stick shift in this poll because more enthusiast types are on the forum vs. the general population.
Remember that in the 90's the 6 speeds in camaros and vettes if I recall were optional at an additional cost over the slushbox. I don't commute through the heart of Los Angeles, so the manual transmission is the only vette I'd buy.
You don't know the disappointment felt everytime I see a really clean C4 in the classifieds only to find the word 'automatic' in the ad copy or to see the pics with the little PRND321 indicator window on the console.

Some pretty good comments listed so far.
Of course I have the 6-speed in my LT4, and I purposely shopped for that combination.
But then again, I don't commute in heavy city traffic.
Nor do I have any physical limitations that would prevent me from enjoying the manual.
I will say that during some of the traffic congestion entering the venues on Power Tour, the 6-speed gets a little tiring.
I think if I had to go through that every day, my choice would be different.
But for now, I would only consider a manual transmission.

The day will come when CVT rules the land and somewhere a kid will ask, "Daddy, what were gears for?"
I have a 6spd but I think it will be my last. When I have time to go out to the twisties for spirited driving (obeying all traffic laws and forum rules) I choose my bike over my car.

My first Corvette (71) was an auto.
When I was looking for a C4 I drove one or two automatics and they just didn't feel right so I went for a 6 speed.
When I bought the C5 it also had to be a 6 speed.
At one time we had 4 people living at home and had 5 cars. Four were 5 speeds and one 6 speed.
Problem is it's getting harder and harder to find daily drivers we like with manual transmissions so we're down to 2 automatics and 2 6 speeds.

Oh Lord I hope not.. Those CVT trannys make me nuts I realize that paddle shifters are cool and all.. but they feel like an old centrifugal clutch on a go kart.. always slipping up and down.
For roadracing/autocross, weekend hotrod Ill take a stick, for a drag race/daily driver..automatic.
