what kind of average highway MPG does your L98 get?
I went to the Santa Clara corvette show this past weekend and decided to reset my average MPG function for my L98 to see what I was getting on the highway. On the 154 mile roundtrip of all highway miles ( except for maybe 3 miles of city driving) I averaged 20.2 MPG on a casual driving style.
What is your L98 getting for average highway MPG.

the 190 miles I put on since I bought it averaged me 20.1 with some serious romping. CAr runs a little rich as it sits and needs some serious tuneup work done, but over all I'm pleased.

OK Don't shoot the Horse!!!
Well we built up a L98 (top end only) and Cam, removed the exhaust and put MELROSE headers and custom tune. My middle son has been using it the last week to go to work ~35 mile each way he has been staying at the speed limit (ticket)and is gettin 48MPG. On the dyno we where getting over 400lbs of tourqe ATRW and he reached 165 mphwhen it started to run a little lean. I had my doubts after having it tuned so we would only let it get to about a half a tank and would fill it again after about 6 months of watching it it is running fine and would trust the gauge. Now we do not baby it too much and drive it kinda hard and on the average now it is always getting over 30mpg.

A couple of weeks ago a friend and I made a trip to Brunswick and averaged 29 mpg in a mix of highway, and backroad traffic. If it had been interstate I'm sure it would've been a few over 30 mpg. Commuting back and forth to work I average about 20mpg

After reading the first few posts, I thought I was within the ball park. But after that, the later posts were getting higher MPG so I guess highway MPG is all over the spectrum. I must be honest, I did not think high MPG like 28 to 30 were possible in the L98 in real world driving conditions. I know the C6 guys are getting high 20s and low 30s, so it's nice to see C4s getting respectable MPG numbers.

Melting Slicks
I seldom get to do a highway run I am 99% of the time in town. IIRR It has been consistant at 16.5 for the last 5 or 6 tanks. I am happy with that for in town use.

On my trip from Cincinnati, OH to Grand Rapids, MI my 85 AT with the 2.73 gear got my best of 24.5 mpg on a 400 mile trip, 99% highway. When I first bought the car, if I got 22 I was doing good. I'm sure the plugs need to be changed by now. But I think the biggest thing was I changed to Deisgn III injectors from FIC, increased fuel pressure by like 1.5psi. There have been a few other things I did, but as far as fuel/air goes, that's about all I've changed.
The 6sp cars I hear do alot better, 28 seems to be the # I hear more often.

In 1993 I knew a Vette with a L98 giving the guy 28~30 MPG on the freeway.

He never got 48 mpg unless it was downhill on a ski slope in neutral with a tailwind, sorry.
He must have glanced at the instant mpg readout or something .
Best I ever got was about what the window sticker claimed most times a little less. Doesnt matter though when its empty you still have to refill it.

I was getting 20 until the bigger injectors and roller cam swap. Now it hovers around 18.
..............I'm not sure if it the performance modifications that caused the drop in mileage, or the fact that I like to use it alot has.
