Hello all.

Need some help, I picked up a 1984 corvette on Sunday and the man selling it to me said it would not start. I noticed that the horn was disconnected and when I plugged it in the horn went off and stayed constant. Also the security light was on. Dash lit up and everything worked but when I turned the key I heard a click in the dash and nothing happened.

I went home did some reading and found out that I could disarm the security system by unlocking the door using the key. Everything worked!! So the next day I dropped off the car to get smoged. When I called in to see how it went I found out that the car passed but now he can't get it started. When I went to pick up the care the security light is on and I tried resetting the security system by locking the door with the door lock switch and unlocking it with the key. Also I have disconnected the battery nothing works!

What I would like is to totally bypass the security system for now and get more info so that I can repair it at a latter date, Has anyone had this problem? what did you do to fix it? Please help, Thanks Andrew

see if unlocking the passenger door works. mine will go off and if i unlock the drivers door with the key it stays on. but if i unlock he passenger door it disarms.

Do a search on VATS and VATS bypass. There are a ton of threads on this.

It's not the VATS...the 84 doesn't have it..Did the PO add any extra stuff to it and maybe messed up the wiring somehow...just a guess..

Nope the only thing he had done was installed an aftermarket stereo.

Something's interfering with the starter circuit. Maybe just the starter solenoid?

Has anyone ever bypassed the system or hot-wired there 1984 vet? If this was my 1966 cuda I would have problem hot-wiring it in a emergency situation like this.

Make sure that the key hole in the lock cylinder is turned vertical and not left at some angle. I would check both sides.

When you turn the door lock...it engages a switch that resets the alarm....if that switch is all corroded, not reset.

Take off the door panel and look at the switch for the contact or try the other door.

No VATS on '84s

Get a PKE or a VKE or some sort of aftermarket keyless entry installed ASAP.

I found a PKE for sale.....it was the best $80 + $100 install I've spent on my '84
