C-4 oil change

C-4 oil change
I had my oil changed yesterday and it was 13 months between oil changes and about 600 miles. I thought i would get it done before i put the car away for the winter months. When the guy changed the oil he said the old oil came out looking brand new. ??? I know you are to change the oil on average 3000 miles however, how about time? How long is ok between oil changes if you put less than 1000 miles a year?

Once a year if the car is not driven a lot is fine. With my C5, I change oil once per year as I only drive it about 3K per year.
If the car is stored in an area with high humidity, especially during the winter rainy months, it's a good idea to run the engine for 15 minutes or so every month if that's possible. That will get the engine warm enough to burn off any moisture that finds its way into the engine. It also help keep moisture out of the exhaust system.
Changing oil before storage works good as it gives you fresh oil when the car is ready to be taken out again.

I have the same issue about 600 miles a year. I questioned Mobil-I on line and they stick by the once a year minimum change recommendation. So I drain new looking oil out each December from both of my personal cars.

I changed mine the week I bought it, then again 900 miles later...it was that nasty. This oilchange has about 600-ish miles on it and looks MUCH cleaner than the last one. Bought the car in August. I hope to put over 5k miles on it next year.

Once a year is fine with low mileage. people change their oil too much IMO.
That 3000 mile interval is old school but in certain driving situations it's still used and should be. Normal driving doesn't require it anymore. But the oil industry still suggests it, gee I wonder why.

The oil has improved with the synthetics and the blended oils. The filters have improved also, filtering smaller particles so the 3000 mile oil change is not always a must anymore.

My 89 manual talks of changing the filter every other oil change. But I change it every oil change anyways. I plan to start using Purolator Pure One PL34631. As they are supposed to filter pretty good and that filter is longer than the stock filter.

I'm old school and always heard dino oil must be changed 3-4 months even with low mileage due to moisture and acids. Running just for 15 minutes is not good because it is not long enough at temp to get rid of the impurities. I just had my daughters 04 mustang oil changed yesterday and brought this up to the owner when making decision to go dino or synthetic mobil 1. Since she is in college and not driving much I was wondering if the 6-10k mile was not driven before 3-4 months, would synthetic have same problem as dino. He said Mobil 1 synthetic and be left in for 1 year if mileage is not met. Just my 2c.

Do you change it BEFORE or AFTER storage?
