Default changing gears stock lt1 w/ auto trans

is it worthwhile to change the rear end gears on a stock lt1 (92) with an auto tranny? i love the cars power, i just dont like how long it takes to make power, it seems like a dog unless i really launch it and have the pedal to the floor, which isnt the best idea for day to day street driving. i have no intention on tracking or dragging the car, just want a little more bite when i go to pass someone. i do plan on an exhaust upgrade when the $$ is right and possibly cam upgrade in future. seems like upgrading gears is the cheapest place to start. input please

**tried search and mostly came up with l98 issues with low end powerband, not much i could find relavant to the lt1

Yes, I think it is. I went from a 2.59 to a 3.07, but am sorry I didn't go to a steeper gear. I can notice a difference, but will go to a 3.4X or better in the future. I'll trade some gas mileage in for more fun factor.

LT1 will enjoy the 3.75 gear set. I am sure you will love it too if you are not satisfied with what you have.

If it's your D/D I would not go to 3:73 unless you don't mind the decrease in gas milage, mostly on the freeway. It's a perfect gear for autox, 3:07 is a good street gear.

not a "daily" driver, but a street cruiser with no intent on x-crossing or drag racing. if i were looking for gas mileage i'd stick with my other 2 vw's. wasnt what i had in mind when i purchased the vette lol

Well then you've answered your own question. If you have the 2.59 you will notice a significant difference with the 3.07

Another option is to go with a high stall TC.

Yes. If it's a factory D36 2.59,a thick gear set is required.

I went from 2.59 to 3.07 and glad I did. It launches better and still gets 20.4 mpf city driving. Besides you can pick up good used 3.07/36 for a low price. All the others are pricey.

Did you change the speedo gears? It will appear your getting better mileage if you didn't change to the correct speedo gear.
I changed from a 2.59 to a 3.45 and the average MPG digital display says I'm getting better mileage. I didn't change the speedo gear. The tripometer says I'm traveling more miles against the same amount of gas. Looks like better mileage but really it isn't. Even if you do it by math (miles driven / gallons used) it will appear you're getting better mileage.

I personely would not go to a high stall for just street driving. But if it's for kick *** fun, do high stall and 3:73's.
