LT1 valve cover removal
92 LT1: I’m trying to remove the right side valve cover, but it appears that the EGR pipe has to be unbolted in order to lift the cover off. Is that normal for the LT1 or am I missing something obvious?

Passenger side?
No, the AIR line does not has to be removed.

But seriously, about the valve cover, that's what I was trying but it was a hard stop against the rockers and the EGR pipe. I'll give it another shot.

On the passenger side??????
I must be doing it wrong then. The only time I took that valve cover off with the EGR/AIR tube off was when I put on the headers.
If you tug a little on the pipe you can move it a little higher and a little more to the back. Then once you have the valve cover loose you can wiggle it off and back on

I was expecting to see the rubber gasket squeezed into a groove as others have described it. On the '92 however, it's the same conventional gasket as on the 86 - 91's.

Sorry to drag up an old post.
I was able to mussel the cover off without removing the EGR/AIR tube, but trying to put it back on has been a challenge.
The valve cover bolt hole is getting caught on the second to last rocker arm.
Anybody have tips or tricks to get the cover on?
Thanks,
Roy

The EGR tube has a flexible section. If you unbolt it from the intake manifold you can bend it out of the way. The later ones have a flange on the exhaust manifold that you can unbolt. You'll need new gaskets.

That's my project for tomorrow.
My 92 bolts to the rear of the intake manifold. Will need to remove the fuel rail to get at the bolts on the manifold.
I stripped the covers and painted them with black crinkle paint.
They look 100 percent better to me, I'm sure it's not for everybody.
I hated the the look of the pealing paint.
Before
FYI.
I did not paint the Intake, trying to figure out how to remove with out making a mess in the engine compartment.

Looks good.
I am getting ready to do mine this Saturday. The driver side is leaking like a wh@re on a Saturday morning. Anyone have the correct part number for the gaskets on a 92 ? Also, does the alternator mounting bracket have to be removed on the drivers side to remove the valve cover ?

I'm pretty sure the gasket part number is Fel-Pro VS 50088R.
Don't remember if taking off the bracket is required, pretty sure I had it off for other work.
