How are GS Fender Flares attached???

I'm pretty sure with a true GS they are part of the molding and are a part of the fender.
If they are the aftermarket, there are 2 ways that they are supposed to attach. One is with double sided 3M tape. The more permanent mount requires drilling holes in the fender well and the flairs have bolts that snap into retainers, the bolts go through the holes and a nut goes on the inside. Most kits are supplied with hardware for both installations.
I've been thinking about doing this if I can find some deep dish rims that will hold 315s.
As great as 3M tape is, I think I'll go with the hardware mounting.
*edit*
The description here shows it as both possibilities.

1996 GS flares are NOT a part of the rear 1/4's. They are a seperate piece altogether. The factory flares are hollow. They attach with 3M tape and/or screws. There are screw holes in the GM units for attaching when you get them. There are no bolts or clips, according to the GM parts computer. I hve received new GM units that include screws but no bolts or clips of any kind.
The aftermarket flares are also hollow but made of hand laid fiberglass.
The aftermarket flares attach the same way. Either screws or 3M tape. Owner's choice.

Mine are held on with the 3M tape. The body man who installed them recommended this so if I wanted to remove them at some future time, I could do it without having to repair any damage caused by mounting scrwes. These flares are from Vette Daddy. Preparation and painting were performed by a professioal.

Posting on an old thread with hopes...I ordered a set of the rear flares for my 96 and like everyone else has stated, they are hollow on the back side. I am against drilling holes through the rear quarters and would like the 3M tape idea, the problem is though, since the entire flare is hollow, theres nowhere to attach the tape to that will touch both the flare and the fender. Is there suppose to be some kind of built in or built up bracket where is can be taped?

3M is strong enough to hold Go-Pro cameras pass 150 MPH. 3M will work just fine.

Well yea...im sure both those methods would work great but the problem is with the flares are hollow. Therefore, not sure what to attach the tape to...?

The factory flares are hollow but are enclosed with a backside.
Sounds like you bought a set from the vendor on ebay selling the repros that have no backside. Crazy

Clear silicone adhesive out of the tube will fill the void. You just need to do this in a few spots, not the whole flare.

Yep...think I did ...BUT, it was hard to justify $400-$500/set vs $200/set. Brett, sent you an email back...

The set I bought here on the forum I had to add fiberglass to them, only the two ends touched the fenders ,I could fit my finger in between it and the fender in the middle so I custom fit them to my fenders. They were not from VetteDaddy but from someone else here. 3M tape is the only way to go IMO

I've found that each flare needs to be massaged a little in order to fit flushly. This can be accompished by using a sanding block and 80 grit paper. It's pretty painless.
I normally trim my flares about 1/16" from the parting line so the owner can custom fit them to their car.

I sent the ebay ones back (to Oregon), and got the VetteDaddy ones. Huge difference in quality. Much Better. Not crazy expensive and I got what I wanted. IMHO, these are Vettes, and deserve better than junk parts.

For an update guys, just wanted to let everyone know that I pulled the trigger on ordering a pair of fender flares from forum member "Vette Daddy". To be honest, I am amazed out how well these flares look and there wont be much, if any trimming done to line up these flares on the rear quarters. Not only that, but when comparing them to the flares I bought off ebay, its a day and night difference! I think "Vette Daddy's" flares were about $45 more than the ebay ones, but these are solid flares and not hollow on the underside and even the quality of the material itself far surpasses the cheapo ebay ones. He even took it one step further by stamping the original GM part numbers on the underside of the flares! Very pleased to say the least with the purchase and just wanted to share my experience with anyone/everyone who is thinking about installing these flares. Definitely better than what I expected to receive. Now, just excited to get them lined up, sprayed and installed!
