Default trans questions

Ive got a 1987 corvette with the 4+3 manual transmission. When i got the car, it had some trans work in the past and the overdrive switch had broken terminals. I removed the switch and installed another aftermarker one. overdrive still does not kick in.

What should i do next? I am new to this model corvette and this transmission.

.
Switch doesn't operate the O/d directly.
It sends a signal to the computer which operates the O/d relay.
The computer will operate the O/d without any input from you ( when right conditions are met ).
if O/d is not engaging automatically you could have one of many simple problems.
Low fluid in O/d ,faulty relay , bad wiring of connections on O/d control circuit

The one on the shifter?
What type of switch?
87 has momentary contact type ; not a OFF /ON switch

yes, i thought it was an on/off switch. where do you check the o/d fluid and where is the relay located?
