What is top speed of L98 C4's?
Hi,
I tried googling this and can't find any information.
Does anyone know the top speed of a 1989 Corvette Coupe, stock? Or any C4 Corvette with the L98 engine?
Thanks

This has been a topic just a few times in the past... no one really agrees but I hit 155 and was still pulling hard. I doubt an auto is quite as fast as my 6 speed. People also say it tops in 5th gear but I loose power and can't accel after about 145. I shift to 6th and im at like 3k rpm and start pulling again. I've been told that 6th is not meant to put power down and can cause damage pushing it.
All in all I think 165 is a safe bet in a lightly modded (exhaust, air box, maybe mild porting) and a 6 speed trans, stock gearing. I think my auto 87 would hit 150 and that was it. It had the sport gearing though so top out wasn't as good.
These cars are better at lower speeds though, where we can utilize torque.

We had a member he claimed his 87 Vette would do 200 MPH. He is no longer active in this Forum.

I can attest to that. I live in Hemet, and that's about a 20 mile run. You'd need every bit of that 20 miles

I guess it needs the Hemet Hwy 79 down hill road. There is an apple orchard right at the bottom next to the Crocodile Nest Bar.

The best spot I've discovered is I-10 between Phoenix and LA. HUGE long streches. Mostly 18 wheelers in the right lane that that's about all the traffic you'll get during the week. The air is also pretty fresh and If you get it on a nice 80* day it seems perfect.....
But I have NEVER gone above the speed limit in my car......
