Does the 84 have a different bolt pattern or is something in the way of this style delete kit?
Not 100% sure. The mfg says that these are the only compatible years.

The air pump and belt tensioner pulleys are in differrent locations. The L98 has the air intake coming in over the centre of the engine and needs that space clear while the L83 has the air pump in that spot. It's air intakes are on each side from the hood channels. Just different locations for the pulleys when the air pump is gone...

So, the bolt patterns on the front of the engine block and heads are in the same locations?

Well, L83 and L98 are both SBC, but if you get them together and do a stare-and-compare, each uses different mounting hardware due to the different pulley positions.

I thought of making a plate to hold a pulley (same type pulley & bearing as tensioner), up where the air pump pulley resides so as to mimick the pump and enable the same '84 stock serp belt to be used. It seems feasible at this early point. It would also keep the sequence angles on both sides of the belt as the stock configuration.

Steve or Corvettemods1, here's an L-83 serp routing diagram. As long as modding the pulley system, an A.C delete as well as an Air Pump delete would be nice..

Air pump is a temp part of the cold start process. After operating condition is reached it turns off. However, the parasitic drag is still there. You don't need the pump, most have failed anyway and you don't even know it!

Actually being driven by a belt the air pump never shuts off so long as the engine is running. It is the diverter valve that sends air from the exhaust manifolds in open loop to the catalytic converter once the car goes into closed loop.

Curious to know did you ever happen contact the manufacturer so that we can see some test results (a dyno graph would be wonderful) that dictates how many ponies this parasitic drag phenomenon is bogging us down?

The 1984 C4 does not require a special kit to eliminate the air pump. Just pull it off and install an 85.5" serp belt, goodyear 4060855.

What happened to WILCAR'S post about the AC delete kits for the Camaros and Firebirds that will work on an '84? All gone...like it's a new world.......

I think my original post on the 84 AC delete got buried someplace but I left a post on the tech forum(unless the gremlins snatched that one too) but if you need any info you can email me at docwilcar@hotmail.com as the gremlins have not invaded my email address yet!!!

I want to drop the air pump and the AC compressor with all the plumbing to gain better access to all the stuff that I DO use. The 20 HP, myth or fact doesn't concern me. Couldn't give a sh$t less...but I get your point..
