G92 Performance Axle and Z51

G92 Performance Axle and Z51
I just read this on the rear axle ratio: * Diff ratio: 2.59:1 (RPO MXO) or 3.07:1 (RPO G92 or Z51)
So I guess that means you have the performance axle option if you have a Z51 even if you do not have it as a stand alone because it was included in the Z51.
This would make sense as I have read on this forum that members had the 3.07 gears and thought there was no difference with the G92 option.
They must have had Z51's with no G92 option on the window sticker.

For a stick car ,there was no performance axle option available ( '84 notwithstanding ) so if you have a 4+3
you got the 3.07 rear anyway (which was a perf option for auto cars) independent of having the Z51 option or not
But you could say ;
as Z51 was only available with a manual in certain years then Z51 came with 3.07's
G92 only signifies a optional available ratio ( in this case 3.07 in a auto car ) was fitted to the car

So does it have the perf axle / 3.07 ?

This would lead you to believe that you get the 3.07 diff with either the G92 option or the Z51 package:
Transmissions:
Automatic Transmission
* Four-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic (TMH 700-R4)
* floor-mounted gear shifter
* gear ratios:
* 1st = 3.06:1
* 2nd = 1.63:1
* 3rd = 1.00:1
* 4th = 0.70:1
* Rev = 2.29:1
* Diff ratio: 2.59:1 (RPO MXO) or 3.07:1 (RPO G92 or Z51)

My '87 is a Z52 car (sport suspension) and has a manual trans. The build sheet doesn't show G92 specifically but the car has a 3.07 gear which is listed as RPO G44 - 3.07 Ratio Axle. It also shows RPO G87 - Ring Gear 8.5"
RPO G92 was used in later C4's to denote a "Performance Axle Ratio" but it was always accompanied by another RPO that identified a specific axle ratio. My old '92 convertible with auto trans had the G92 Performance Axle Ratio but the installed ring gear was a GU2 - 2.73 Ratio Axle.
So as rodj stated, "G92" simply identified the performance axle option but not a specific ratio.

The car I'm looking at buying has Z51.
The service parts identifier sticker shows RPO:
G44 3.07 Rear Axle Ratio
FE7 High Performance Suspension Package
FG3 Delco-Bilstein Shock Absorbers
