1988 Door lock removal
I just recently purchased a 1988 Corvette (my first one). I want to replace the door locks, because the previous owner lost the key. I got a new key from the dealer that fit the glove box and rear lockers, but it does not fit the doors. I have changed locks in other cars, but not the Corvette. I do not have a Factory manual. I have the door panel off. My question is how does the lock come out? Does the door handle have to be removed? Thanks for any help! Steve

The lock assy is not part of the door handle.
The only instruction for removal of the lock assy is "refer to figrue 5-5" in the '88 Vette FSM pp 5.2.
The lock cylinder pulls out once released. On that cylinder is a Lock cylinder housing which slides over the lock cylinder, looks like it's held by some sort of retainer clip.
Behind the lock cylinder housing is the power door lock mechanism which fits over the shaft of the cylinder lock.
Behind that is the lock pawl, held in place by a C-clip that slips into a groove around the end of the lock cylinder.
Perhaps someone will have an on-line pic of that page from the FSM.

And the car uses a single key for both, yes?
