I plan on having my 85 windows tinted soon. Currently, the tint is blue however, over the years has turned to a purple hue. The car is two tone white with bronze lower section and bronze targa so I plan on going with a brown tint.
Any suggestions, horror stories, ect. It's my understanding they have to remove the hatch glass which concerns me.

The purple is due to being cleaned with ammonia products like windex over the years and time. The rear hatch glass does not need to be removed unless you are looking for a one piece install vs strips. Grey usually is the WTG. GC

There is no need to remove the rear hatch even if they one piece it all they have to do is remove the struts.

A tint shop will give some good advice on how best to clean tint film. I use warm water with just a very small amount of car wash soap. Another thing that works is Stoner's glass cleaner. Groit's Garage has a window cleaner that works with tint film and does a very good job.

For cleaning use sprayway glass cleaner you can get it at home depot.

Go with a high quality tint. The cheaper tints can turn purple over time even if you use the right kind of cleaner.

The last three C4 I have had done in one piece install the glass was removed each time. Can it be done??? Yes but it is easier for the tech to remove the glass and turn it over to work.

I agree with mrmtrtrnd, higher quality tints will make the difference between fading and otherwise. I work at a tint shop and the standard or lower grade films will turn purple over time due to the fact that they are made from a DYED polyester material... no manner of cleaning or care will ever protect you fully from that. It's merely age, wear, and sun exposure that contributes to the fading. Even covering your car and keeping it in the garage when you're not using it will not protect it ENTIRELY from fading.

The brand we normally use, 3M, has a very popular "Color Stable" film that is non-metalized and non-dyed, therefore guaranteed not to turn purple. It is probably the favorite among our customers. Any tint types above the color stable in price are also guaranteed not to turn purple. I am not familiar with other brands so I am not sure what their equivalents would be. Despite this, you still should avoid cleaning your windows with an ammonia-based cleaner.
