Default Early C4's should keep this part number

Anyone with an early C4, you may want to keep this part number. If and when your heater core needs replaced, $$$$$$ you may opt to just bypass the heater core temporarily or permanantly. Doing this will keep your heater and defroster from putting out hot air. You will need a "heater core bypass hose". It's a "U" shaped hose that will go in place of the two small inlet and outlet hoses on your firewall for the heater. I looked everywhere for this hose and finally found it at a NAPA Auto Parts store. It's NAPA part #10743. It's a 3/4"id X5/8"id hose that no one else seems to carry because of it having two different size ends. It fits perfectly with just about an inch cut off each end. It costs $11.49. This will allow you to go on driving it forever with no heat, or it will hold you until you're able to get the cash to replace your heater core. I STILL can't find anyone in the Pittsburgh area to replace mine! I'LL PAY CASH!!!!RIGHT AWAY!!!!

You can also go into Advance Auto and buy the short 2 1/2" copper 3/4 X 5/8 adapter for about $3.89....Then you just pull the hoses off the heater core and stick one on each end with a clamp. Ace Hardware also has these incase Advance is out ...This is what I did and it worked great till I fixed my core.......WW

I've seen that used and there's another that's 5/8 both ends that's used on later projects. Here's yours:

This is the one. All you need to do is trim the length off both ends. About an inch on the short side and two inches off the longer side. Fits like a glove.

My car is equipped with something like this right now. Didn't need heat during the warm seasons and the car is driven infrequently enough during the winter that I have yet to bring myself to tear into the heater core. That and we're having a mild winter here so far....close to 60* for the next few days!

Does anyone know what model year that the change was made from two different size hoses, to the years that had both hoses the same size ?
WVZR-1 do you have the NAPA # for the one that is the same size on both ends ?

Thanks !

Also does this go on the heater core itself or the two heater hoses from the engine ?

It goes on the two metal pipes coming from the engine. It connects them both together closing the loop.
