Z07 is packaged with fx3 selective ride control, the Z51 is not, however not all fx3 cars are Z07. The Z51 was not available during the years the Z07 package was available.

Early Z51 had harsh suspension, later Z51 and Z07 had reduced spring rates over the years. Both have quick steering ratio and both will have J55 big brake package until 95 when it was included on coupe and convertible at no charge...
Z07 included FX3

In '89, Selective Ride Control (FX3) came only in combination with the Performance Handling Package (Z51),
but when you ordered those two, in a strange twist, the car was downgraded to softer, base springs, stabilizer bars and front lower control arm bushings.
Many unsuspecting '89/'90 customers, wanting the stiffer springs and bars, ordered Z51 along with FX3 but never knew their cars had base parts.

It was not until 1991 when a combination of SRC and the stiffer springs and bars was released.
That was RPO Z07, available through 1995.

100% correct there. Though owning a 1990 I can see why. For the street the base spring is already quite harsh and I suspect the engineers did not want to cop flack of the 1984 car (dumper truck ride) when FX3's intention is to give a smooth ride so they perhaps omitted the harder springs when FX3 is specced for 1990.

On a side note, I find the performance setting is best. All 3 settings is still harsh but the softer settings give a bouncy ride but doesn't really cush the ride at all. I also heard that the ZR1 really makes the FX3 work as intended due to the heavier car all around.

Cheers,
Gary.

The ZR-1 had the softer spring rates...and plows like a pig due to the extra weight of the engine with its subsequent higher C/G. My Z07 will smoke a ZR-1 on an AutoX...but the ZR-1 really shines on an open road and will leave me for dust.

Two different design philosophies...one is a Corvette Challenge car from the factory, the other was the ultimate GT cruiser.

BOTH were/are killer cars!

AND, I own 1 of each

You are absolutely correct, I forgot about the '89 and '90 year models.
