Default Spare tire rim

Will a spare tire rim form a 96 vette fit a 1987 vette?

I don't see why not. Same bolt pattern.

Yes, any 17" spare from a C4 will fit any C4. The early 16" spares won't fit the fronts of the later cars though. The brakes are to big.

I thought they were 17s but was not sure I guess I'll hold out for a 16 as trying to go back all original.

I just junked mine. It was the original and held air OK. The folks at America's Tire refused to put it on my car because the tire was over 10 years old (they told me it was a state law, but I think it might just be a company policy).

I tried to buy a new tire, but they are no longer available in that size.

I know you're going original, but for others in this situation this is the route that I took:

I had to enlarge the center hole to fit on my hub. I never tried the old spare on the front (it has been on the back), but I was thinking that it might have clearance issues because I have the J55 brakes on my car. The calipers sometimes scrape the inside of the stock 16" wheels.

16" for all thru 87 and '88 was a mix - '88 with 17" wheel option got the 17" compact.

IMO our old spares are still good for getting to the next off ramp (slowly) or holding the car up if you need extended access to a wheel off the car.
