On my 96 vette what causes the Sys light to flash off and on.

Charge the battery.

The "SYS" flashing every minute or so indicates an electrical system fault.
The number one cause of that is a low (or almost dead) battery, or a bad/weak connection somewhere.

But with that said it is also worth mentioning that if you have an aftermarket stereo, that could also cause it.

beaware if the battery has an internal short the "SYS" is th ewarning before it craps out

Charge battery for sure. Also check if the alternator is functioning.

I had the same thing happen with mine. Charged the battery and it disappeared until the battery lost charge again. Changed out the 3 year old battery for new. No problem since.
