Hey guys...just wanted to let you know I finally got around to getting my flares painted and put on and wanted to send a shout out. I bought my flares from forum user 'Vette Daddy' after buying a set off ebay and trashing them. The set I bought off ebay were horrible. They were hollow with no backing and would have taken a miracle to make fit right. After talking with Brett('Vette Daddy'), he sent me some pics of his flares which are exact reproductions of the original GM flares...he even went as far as putting the original GM stamping and part numbers on them. I pulled the trigger on his flares(and extensions) and in about a week, he had shipped them out. I knew instantly upon looking at and holding them, that these were the real deal. They arent hollow, or cheap feeling and you can tell that they have excellent craftsmanship. With very very minimal sanding, they fit like a glove on the car. So...got some paint put on them last week and finally got them put on yesterday afternoon. At first, I was only going to install the flares, but after seeing the flare extensions, I decided to put those on as well to add that "finishing touch".
Sorry about the quality of the pics...with my camera and the lighting, they didnt turn out the greatest...

Genius!
Amazing transformation. I saw that car last year in the rough when it was just a collection of rough, fiberglass sections; no trim - completely in the raw. Brett is a Rembrandt in fiberglass; and so nonplussed about it all. Truly, truly, an artist in his own time (as we can see!).
I don't know if he'll take it by the NCM, to show them further evidence of what he can do, when it comes to restoration -as if his ZR-1 prototype that he resurrected from the crushed hulk it was wasn't enough. (Seems to me the NCM is more enamored with their NCM history; a la thesinkhole rather than rare/historical Corvettes!! No plans to restore the Spyder Corvette car - preferring to leave it like it came out of the sinkhole in its crushed, muddy state....)

Mike Terry is the owner of the 54 Vette. He is also the brother in law of Brett. Those two got together and created a piece of art even better than the GM original (quality wise). They worked on it till the night b4 they had to leave for the island. The car did not win one award, it won two. Very, very few cars have ever done this at that event and I think none have on the first showing. I was invited over to Mikes home a bunch of times, and over to Bretts a few times in the past. I met Mike when I took him to view a 56 vette barn find that I didn't have enough money to buy. (Evidently no one does). The copper Vette pictured is a very nice car with small touches that one has to look for.. I think its very well done and I do like it. I only add all this because Brett is one of the nations top restorers of 53 thru 55 Vettes .. Blue Flame . He does top quality work and just happens to be a nice guy( as Mike Terry.) BTW, the Corvette museam want to display the 54 car for several months as they have done to Bretts 53. Oh, I have never made it over to eithers home. My wife was in Hospice and I would not, could not , leave her alone. Her battle is over now.
