I don't know how I came across this thread, but very cool! I wouldn't know where to start with a project like that. It must take a lot of talent and patience. Good read.

It takes a lot of patience and COURAGE to tackle a project like this. I'm in awe of people like you and thank you for sharing the experience with the rest of us. Growing up in the Lansing area I'm also a fan of Oldsmobiles - looks like you've had your fair share of beauties. Keep up the good work and keep the pictures coming. Good luck with the biceps, too.

Thanks for the replies and kind words. At times I think I went too far tearing it apart and only hope everything works in the end. Fingers will be crossed when I turn the key. These will be my last toys to play with as my Parkinson's keeps me from doing it most of the time. Little bit here and a little bit there.
Still need rockers/pushrods then I can finish the motor and fill in around it. I can tell that things need to go back in order and it will be a hit or miss for some. Should be interesting.

Melting Slicks
Once the surface hardness is worn through, the soft cast core fails quickly. My LT4 had three failed lobes and another three starting to fail (similar to your photo). Time for a "Hot Cam" ?

You are an inspiration to the rest of us lazy B**tards to get moving!
Keep it up and keep posting photos. I look forward to seeing the finished project - and when you get a chance post a few of the 442. When I was a teenager in the mid '70s, a buddy got a '66 or '67 442 convertible. It had seen better days by then but still looked pretty good and went great. Had a lot of fun in that car.

Here's a video of the 442 a couple years ago. The motor will be different this next go around. The corvette is in the video.

Just some more pics of the engine compartment. The heads and intake are on just for mock up, not final. Same for 455 picture in next post. Last picture is of the rotating assy I put in. An Eagle stock 350 assembly along with a Hot cam, MSD Opti and future roller rockers and throttle body. I have Accel 26 lbs injectors and Hooker shorty headers also. Not looking for anything outrageous that is saved for the Olds.

That is awesome! I wish I had the skill to do something like this. I'm a Corvette guy all the way, BUT I always wanted a TransAm GTA. I would love to do something like this, but I think it would be an endless money pit because I don't know what to do! That LT1 on there is looking clean, NICE!

Starting to put harness back, since heads are not bolted down yet I just put things on so i can see where harness leads will go and also to cover up the engine so nothing will fall in.

Few more pics of engine compartment. Running the wire harnesses is fun. The only hard part is trying to figure out what gets installed next. Things have to go in order, i've been lucky so far.
For the Olds fans, I got my other project running.

Slowly but surely getting the engine back together. After seeing the pictures I need to touch up some parts, at least make them look better. This isn't a total restore but after all the work I need to clean it up better.
